Security

Data governance, data security, and data privacy are critical to UTA’s overall data strategy. The data governance framework and the program’s initiatives have influence on the security and privacy of UTA data and empower individuals and teams across campus to use security and privacy best-practices.

Day-to-day oversight of data security and data privacy are managed directly through the Information Security Office and UTA Legal Affairs, respectively.

SECURITY

Data security or “data protection” refers to the technical framework UTA uses to keep our data secure and available.

The Information Security Office (ISO) is tasked by Texas Administrative Code 202, UT System Policy 165, and UTA to ensure the security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all information assets managed by UTA, including its data. This also includes ensuring that UTAs information systems are compliant with various laws and regulations, including FERPA, TX-RAMP, and various other rules and regulations as they apply to diverse types of data and systems.

ISO implements various risk-based and data-driven strategies to meet these objectives through an Information Security Program aligned with the Texas Cybersecurity Framework (Texas CSF). These strategies include cybersecurity risk management efforts such as assessment and reporting, security architecture and incident response, and security awareness training, communication, and outreach. PRIVACY

Whereas data security is about protecting data from compromise, data privacy governs how the data is collected, shared, and used by UTA.

Data is an important asset to UTA, and we derive immense value from the use of it to drive student and the university’s success. The ability for us to abide by privacy policies and regulatory mandates is vital to maintaining trust with our students, staff, and faculty that they can rely on us to keep their privacy.

Data privacy is managed by the UTA Office of Legal Affairs. For more information or questions regarding data privacy, visit UTA Office of Legal Affairs.
