The objective of this AP Spanish Language and Culture institute will be on the structure and content of the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam. There will be an introduction to the Course and Exam Description (CED) guide. We will deep dive into the Unit Guides and Instructional Approaches. This is an activity-based approach that will provide participants with useful strategies and activities for not only developing but maintaining a successful AP Spanish program. In addition, participants will learn to holistically assess student competencies in the target language as well as examine student performance. Furthermore, participants will learn how to navigate AP Classroom and learn strategies to incorporate literary works from the AP Spanish literature exam as a means to improve interpretive/reading mode. We will also preview new resources and supports for the AP course. Overall, key instructional approaches and takeaways will be on understanding, planning and teaching the course as well as assessing student progress and understanding.
Topics will include the following:
• Understanding, planning and teaching the course
• Assessing student Progress and Understanding
• Revise course audit requirements.
• Digital Activation of the course
• AP Classroom: Unit guides, Personal Progress checks, Progress dashboards and Question Bank
• Teaching by Design: Course Skills, Learning Objectives and Course Themes
• Create a unit plan and lesson plan

Alma L. González has taught in the public schools for over 30 years. Served as Department Head of the Foreign Language Department for 18 years. Has served as a Spanish AP Reader for 9 years and has served as a Table Leader as well. She has experience in teaching all Spanish levels including Spanish Language AP and Spanish Literature AP. She has been an adjunct professor and University of Texas-Brownsville for 10 years and foreign language/Spanish teacher for 28 years. This will be her 25th year as a consultant for the College Board. Currently works with the University of Texas Rio Grande as a part time lecturer for the department of education as well as a field supervisor for Region 1 ILP3 (Integrated Leadership Principal Preparation) program.
