During this AP Spanish Literature and Culture APSI, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines. By attending this APSI, you’ll gain deeper insight into the following key takeaways, among several others: Understand the Course; Plan the Course; Teach the Course; Assess Student Progress; and Engage as a Member of the AP Community. In addition, specific attention will be paid to the following AP Classroom resources: unit guides, personal progress checks, AP teacher community, and the AP question bank.

Yolanda Soliz taught Spanish in the Texas public schools for 34 years, was an adjunct faculty member of the Houston Community College System, and taught 8 years at The Kinkaid School (independent) in Houston. She has taught all levels of Spanish (6-14) including AP Spanish Language and Culture, AP Spanish Literature and Culture, and Spanish for Heritage learners. She has grown and mentored beginning teachers for over 25 years.
She has a BA In Spanish and Geography from Texas A&M University and an MA in Spanish from the University of Houston.
She has presented AP Spanish sessions and workshops at HATFL, TFLA, SWCOLT and ACTFL Conferences and the Colegio Internacional de Carabobo in Venezuela.
She was recognized as the TFLA 2006 Spanish Teacher of the Year, and in 2013 was named the AATSP Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Soliz has been a College Board endorsed consultant for 23 years and has served as a Reader for both AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature.
She is past president of the Texas Foreign Language Association and served on the TFLA Board of Directors for 6 years. In Houston she served as the president of the Brazos Chapter of The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese for 15 years. She is also a past president of the Houston Area Teachers of Foreign Languages. For 15 years, she served on the Pan American Student Forum Board of Directors as both Contest and Scholarship Director.
