In order to comply with U.T. System policies and procedures (UTS 157), a prospective driver must complete the University's online Defensive Driving Awareness Training (DDAT) or a Defensive Driving Course (DDC) offered by an outside agency. Additionally, a Driving Record Check must be secured with a satisfactory rating prior to operating UT Arlington owned, leased, or rental vehicles. Individuals not completing the above-mentioned requirements will not be added to the Authorized Drivers List and will not be allowed to drive University vehicles. The Driving Record Background Check must be completed and updated annually and submitted to the University Police Department (a copy of the Application for Copy of Driver Record form is available in the forms section of this page).
The Defensive Driving Awareness Training must be repeated every 3 years. Individuals that have taken an accredited DDC within the past three years can be exempt from taking the UT Arlington DDAT by providing a copy of their DDC completion certificate. The UT Arlington DDAT is not endorsed for ticket dismissal or an insurance discount.

15-Passenger Van Policy
In addition to the above requirements for approval to drive UT Arlington vehicles, employees operating 15 passenger capacity vans must also complete an additional 15-Passenger Van Specific Training. This training consists of an online course plus a behind the wheel commentary driving test. To access the course go to http://www.uta.edu/ra/real/loginscreen.
The 15-Passenger Van driving test will be conducted at the Environmental Health & Safety Office at 500 Summit Ave. Please see our newsletter on this website, Maverick Safety Matters, or call our office at ext. 22185 for training dates and times. Class size is limited to 8 students, so you must make a reservation to attend the training. Drivers must have already taken the Defensive Driving Course and have a current driving record check before taking the hands-on driving test. If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact the Environmental Health & Safety Office at 817-272-2185 or ehsafety@uta.edu.
