The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $750,000 Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program grant to the University of Texas at Arlington College of Education and College of Science to support the training of new teachers. The Principal Investigator on this project is Dr. Ann Cavallo, from the College of Education, in collaboration with Co-Principal Investigators Drs. Greg Hale, assistant dean of science, Ramon Lopez, professor of physics, and James Epperson, associate professor of mathematics. Read more >
hosted Dr. Todd Rose of Harvard University as the first presenter in its 2008-09 speaker series. Dr. Rose used hands-on examples, illusions, and visual art to demonstrate the nature of dynamic perception. He also discussed the implications of dynamic perception for education and educational research, with a focus on his current work exploring the relationship between dyslexia and visual abilities in astrophysics.
The National Network for Educational Renewal conference strands included 1) Paving the Way - Revisiting our History; 2) Working Together - Reflecting on Current Research, Policies and Practices; and 3) Looking to the Future - Considering Possibilities for the Times Ahead.
Exercise Science Research Laboratories (ESRL)The ESRL opened in 2003 with 10 laboratories in 10,000 square feet of space. The 10 laboratories include two cardiopulmonary labs and one each of neuromuscular, metabolism, cardiovascular, biomechanics, chemistry, body composition, athletic training education program, and computer. The equipment in the ESRL includes numerous treadmills, bicycle ergometers, metabolic carts, electrocardiographs, hydrostatic weighing, biodex, force plate, electromyography, cinematography, lactate and blood chemistry analyzers.
