Alumni of all ages gathered last week and over the weekend to experience campus life once again and to participate in Homecoming 2016. The annual traditions, including a parade and pep rally in the College Park District, remind us what it means to be a Maverick and to belong to the unique community of UTA faculty, staff, friends, and alumni. How do We Focus?

UTA researchers are studying the ideal physical and mental states to help children and adults pay attention and practice self-control, by combining computer-game testing with a simultaneous ongoing analysis of heart rate and skin activity. "We know attention and self-regulation are critical for things like academic success, financial success, and general health and well-being," said Catherine Spann, a researcher at UTA's Learning Innovation and Networked Knowledge or LINK Research Lab and principal investigator of the study. Slam Dunk

The men's and women's basketball teams tipped off their 2016-17 seasons with victories during Homecoming weekend at College Park Center. The men defeated Texas Southern, 89-82, while the women raced past UT San Antonio, 75-54. Volleyball

Cheer on the Mavericks this weekend as they host the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Championship at College Park Center. Coach Diane Seymour's team, which finished the regular season at 16-15 overall and 10-6 in conference play. READ MORE and BUY TICKETS

Shorthorn

For the second year in a row, The Shorthorn has been named a Pacemaker among college newspapers by the Associated College Press. Considered the pre-eminent award among collegiate student media, the Pacemaker recognizes excellence in editorial judgment, reporting, editing, design, and photography.

The newly opened UTA Career Development Center is actively seeking alumni willing to impart their professional insight as career mentors to current Mavericks. Volunteer today to help prepare students for tomorrow's workforce.

Fort Worth Art Collective | Gallery 76102 at UTA's Fort Worth Center is hosting an exhibition by the Fort Worth Art Collective, a pop-up gallery showcasing a variety of works in an effort to encourage, promote, and provide opportunities for local artists. The exhibition began November 10 and runs until December 17. LEARN MORE

November 29 | Tuesday

UTA Basketball in Austin | Mavericks living in the Austin area and those traveling to watch the November 29 basketball game between UTA and the UT Longhorns are invited to a pre-game social gathering at Scholz Garten. The event begins at 5 pm and tip-off at the Frank Erwin Center is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

UTA Day at the Rodeo | It's about that time to dust off your boots and head to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo with all of your favorite Mavericks. Mark your calendars for this year's alumni event prior to the rodeo and check back here for details and the opportunity to purchase tickets.

February 16 | Thursday

MSS: Kevin O'Leary | The popular business entrepreneur and TV personality Kevin O'Leary is coming to campus as the first Maverick Speakers Series event in 2017. O'Leary will present Swimming with a Shark - An Evening with Kevin O'Leary at College Park Center. Audience Q&A and book-signing will follow the lecture. BUY TICKETS
