Fighting Heart Disease

A cardiovascular exercise scientist at UTA's College of Nursing and Health Innovation has received a $308,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to study exercise intolerance in older heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction, or HFpEF, which is the fastest growing type of heart failure and is found mostly in older individuals. Mark Haykowsky, a professor of nursing and the college's Moritz Chair of Gerontological Nursing Research, and a team of researchers from the college will study the mechanisms and management of exercise intolerance and its improvement with endurance exercise training in older HFpEF patients. UTA Esports Wins National Championship

The UTA Esports Club won the Heroes of the Dorm® National Championship in an impressive sweep of the popular video gaming competition. The UTA team went 29-0 during the three-week-long tournament. All five members of the team won free tuition for their remaining collegiate years. The March Madness-style tournament featured 64 schools from across the United States and Canada playing Blizzard Entertainment's Heroes of the Storm, a multiplayer online battle arena video game. UTA defeated Louisiana State University in the finals in Las Vegas. READ MORE

UTA Former Student Designs Latest in Anti-Crime Technology

Stacy Stephens demonstrated the latest in anti-crime technology—a robot named K3 he and fellow founders of Knightscope Inc. created to help law enforcement and security agencies keep the peace. Stephens is a former police officer who studied aerospace engineering at UTA. READ MORE

Garrigus Named NHC Fellow

John Garrigus, a professor in the Department of History at UTA, has been named a Fellow of the National Humanities Center. Garrigus is one of 35 Fellows selected for the 2017-18 academic year. The program is highly competitive, with less than 6 percent of applicants being chosen. FACULTY

UTA Cheer Wins National Championship

The UTA cheerleading team won its fourth consecutive National Championship Friday at the National Cheerleaders Association collegiate cheer competition in Daytona, Florida. UTA's 17-member Maverick Cheer squad took home first place in the Small Coed Division One group. READ MORE

Shorthorn Wins National Awards

The Shorthorn, UTA’s student-run news agency, has been recognized with 97 awards from four organizations for excellence in reporting, editing, photography, design, marketing, sales, and more. The awards were received over a two-week time period at conventions and conferences held across Texas. STUDENT EXCELLENCE

UTA Jazz Brunch | Time to hit all the right notes at the annual UTA Jazz Brunch during the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival. Performances by UTA ensembles start at 11 a.m. while brunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the event at $20 per adult are now available. April 28 | Friday

Military Appreciation Night | Join us for Military Appreciation Night at Clay Gould Ballpark as UTA hosts Louisiana-Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. and we honor those who have served our country. Complimentary tickets will be provided for current and former service members when you arrive at the gate.

May 12 | Friday

Alumni and Friends at UTA Baseball | Head out to the ballpark with all your favorite UTA friends and enjoy a night of baseball and Cracker Jacks! It is the last scheduled home game for the 2017 season so come out and root for the home team. Tickets to the picnic hosted by Alumni Relations are now available. GET YOUR TICKETS
