Peggy Semingson, associate professor of literacy studies education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, received the International Literacy Association’s 2017 Jerry Johns Outstanding Teacher Educator in Reading Award. READ MORE

Better Batteries
Wetz

David Wetz, an associate professor of electrical engineering, is studying energy storage for the U.S. Navy. Many batteries may be used to supply high power to intermittently operated loads and it is important to have a way to test how those batteries will perform at sea. Wetz will design, build, and install a roughly 150 kilowatt distributed generation source testbed that will integrate high-voltage AC power sources and DC energy storage. READ MORE

Andrew Feghali of Aeroblaze

Andrew Feghali (BS '12, MBA '16) credits his experience winning the UTA Business Plan Competition as the moment his dreams of running a business came to life. Now the CEO of Aeroblaze, Feghali runs one of the only aerospace flammability testing labs nationwide. READ MORE

Best for Native American Students

Winds of Change, the premier publication for prospective Native American college students, recognized UTA as a top university for a third consecutive year. Total Solar Eclipse | Dr. Ramon Lopez, UTA space physicist, will host a Facebook Live Q&A at 11:30 am (CST) in preparation for the upcoming Total Solar Eclipse. Dr. Lopez will discuss why eclipses happen, what they mean, and how ancient civilizations perceived them. TUNE IN

August 21 | Monday

Mav Move-In | University Housing needs your help volunteering for the 2017 Move-In. An annual tradition that takes place this year on August 21, Mav Move-In brings together the entire UTA family to support incoming campus residents. Residence Halls open at 9 am with volunteers available until 2 pm. VOLUNTEER

August 29 | Tuesday

Pizza with the President: Alumni Edition | Join fellow Mavericks at Legal Draft in downtown Arlington for Pizza with the President on August 29 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Visit with President Vistasp Karbhari while enjoying pizza, beverages, and an evening filled with Maverick pride at Arlington's newest craft brewery. GET YOUR TICKET

September 13 | Wednesday

UTA Night at the Rangers | Gather with UTA alumni and friends for a pre-game picnic on the third base concourse from 6-7:30 pm before the Texas Rangers take on the Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Park. Tickets to the picnic and game are available, and the first 1,000 UTA fans receive a UTA-themed Rangers hat. GET YOUR TICKETS
