ACADEMY OF SCIENCES FELLOW
Academy of Sciences Fellow - Maria Konsta-Gdoutos

Maria Konsta-Gdoutos, a UTA civil engineering professor and associate director of the Center for Advanced Construction Materials, has been elected a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, Engineering Division. The European Academy of Sciences recognizes scientific excellence and cutting-edge fundamental and interdisciplinary science. “I am humbled in being elected to this revered international organization,” Dr. Konsta-Gdoutos said. ATLAS EXPERIMENT
ATLAS EXPERIMENT - Haleh Hadavand

Haleh Hadavand, assistant professor of physics at UTA, is supervising part of an upgrade to the ATLAS experiment, the largest general-purpose particle physics project at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Switzerland. Dr. Hadavand is supervising an upgrade to the so-called High Luminosity LHC era. With this upgrade, the LHC will be able to deliver more data in a shorter amount of time and therefore be able to answer fundamental questions about the nature of the universe. READ MORE

Q&A: JOHN GARRIGUS

In 2019, John Garrigus, professor of history, became the first scholar from UTA to be selected for the prestigious Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program. He was one of 32 chosen from a pool of 273 nominations and the only fellow from a Texas university in his class. Dr. Garrigus is a leading scholar of Atlantic and Caribbean history who uses archival research and geographic information systems technology to provide fresh insight into the 18th-century Haitian revolution—the only successful slave uprising in modern history. UTA Study - Dr. Schug

UTA will host North Texas’ brightest middle and high school students at the 69th Fort Worth Regional Science and Engineering Fair, Feb. 23-24. UTA is a major sponsor of the event, with funding from the Office of the Provost and Lockheed Martin that allows hundreds of middle and high school students to participate in the competition and engage in UTA campus activities.
