MLK III to speak at Advancing the Dream banquet

Martin Luther King III, a human rights advocate, community activist, and oldest living child of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will speak at the annual Advancing the Dream Awards Banquet beginning at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the Bluebonnet Ballroom of the E.H. Hereford University Center. The banquet honors recipients of the MLK Living Legend Awards and presents scholarships. Banquet tickets are $55 at utatickets.com.

Poetry Meets Jazz is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, in the Bluebonnet Ballroom. Admission is $20 at utatickets.com.

The annual MLK Day of Service is Monday, Jan. 15. Gather at 9 a.m. at Mission Metroplex, 400 W. South St., for breakfast and assignments.

Some campus dining spots open this week

Chick-fil-A, Subway, Freshii, Starbucks, and the Market, all in the University Center, are open for business. Connection Café will reopen Friday, Jan. 12. The University Club and other dining spots on campus will open Tuesday, Jan. 16. Read more on the UTA Dining website.

Over in the College Park District, dining options include Bombay Chopstix, Panera Bread, Pie Five, Texadelphia, and Starbucks at the UTA Bookstore.


Spring parking permits available

Spring parking permits are available through your MAVPark account. Faculty/staff permits are $150. If you need a permit for summer, select the prorated annual permit. Evening-only and upgraded permits are available in limited amounts.
