Dear Colleagues:

The process of obtaining input from the University community regarding strategic steps that we need to take is proceeding at a brisk pace, and we're making tremendous strides. I'd like to update you on our progress.

I have had the pleasure of meeting with faculty, staff, students, alumni, elected officials, and members of the business community during the past several months. I've encouraged you to share what excites you about UT Arlington, what opportunities you see ahead, and, quite frankly, what you think we could do better. I am constantly impressed with the passion and dedication I encounter as I meet people throughout the University community.

I recently had the opportunity to hear from a number of our strongest supporters and Development Board members on their thoughts regarding future directions for the University. I am pleased to report that all I've met are not only extremely supportive of the University's journey to greater levels of excellence but are committed to helping us reach our goals.

I simply couldn't be more encouraged with the feedback we've been getting thus far. In a Dialogue letter a few weeks ago, I asked for your input on a number of important questions regarding the future of the University. Your response to the call for ideas has been both thoughtful and inspiring, and I appreciate the time you've taken to share your perspectives.

The Forward Thinking website has been expanded to feature highlights of some of your input via the website questionnaire, meetings, breakfast and lunch discussions, correspondence, etc. I'm delighted to see that several broad themes are beginning to emerge, and the ideas listed on the site are primarily those that express the thoughts of multiple submissions. I hope you will take a moment to visit the site, review the multitude of ideas and suggestions posted there, and click the "Recommend" button for those you agree with. You might even recognize some of your responses. If not, rest assured that I'm reading every single one and that you're being heard.

Meanwhile, our strategic planning initiative continues, and I am still gathering input. I will continue to get around and meet with as many of you as possible during the remainder of this semester, and I encourage those of you who have not yet sent in your input to please do so at the Forward Thinking website.
