I understand the following types of charges will not be considered for appeal unless evidence of an error is provided:
Life Safety Violations * Life Safety charges on your account are due to a violation that was found by the University Fire Marshal for either possession or use of a prohibited item or other Life Safety violations. At this point we are only accepting appeals for the removal of charges if you have direct proof that the Fire Marshal made an error in charging or documenting the violations or an error was made in the billing amount.
Improper Checkout Charges * Charges related to improper check out (failure to schedule a move out inspection, did not arrive on time for your scheduled appointment, did not check out with Apartment & Residence Life staff or did not prepare your room appropriately for the scheduled appointment) are ineligible for appeal unless you have specific evidence that proves the information is inaccurate.
Damage or Replacement Costs * A list of damage and cleaning charge estimates is provided in the Residence Hall Handbook. The cost of repair includes labor and materials for the items needing attention. The cost of repair or replacement is not negotiable. These costs are not appealable unless the wrong amount was applied to your account.
Additional damages after Move-Out * After every move-out, Facilities Management completes a walkthrough of the apartment after the RA completes the initial inspection. As described on the bottom of your inventory sheet, there may be times when charges are applied to your account for damages found by Facilities Management that are not found by the student staff completing your initial inspection. These charges are not appealable unless you can provide proof you are not responsible for the damages.
Details of Appeal- For each individual charge you are appealing, please list the amount you were billed and specific justification as to why you should not be responsible for the charge.
