Scholarships

Student Publications awards several named awards and scholarships to recognize and encourage outstanding student work by current staff. The dollar amount of each scholarship varies based on availability of funds.

AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

  • Sallie Waldron Award, awarded for outstanding achievement in Shorthorn publications design.
  • Charles LeMaistre Award, for outstanding achievement in reporting.

  • Newsroom Rookie Award, for outstanding work by a Newsroom rookie.
  • Director’s Awards, for outstanding work by staff members in any Student Publications area for accomplishments not recognized in other awards.

Scholarship recipients are recognized during the Student Publications Award Banquet. Their names are added to plaques that hang in the Student Publications office.

TO APPLY
The application process for these scholarships and awards is electronic. That is, no paper applications will be accepted. Instead, you'll visit UT Arlington's MavScholarShop once you are ready to apply, search for the scholarship/award by name, then upload your materials there. Please allow yourself enough time to do so and to meet the published deadline. Please read the instructions and criteria carefully.

EDITOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Students selected to be Shorthorn editors are eligible to apply for Editor Scholarships. That application is an addendum to the student’s editor application.

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING
Student Publications scholarships and awards are supported by donations, supplemented by funds from the Student Publications operating budget.

To contribute:

  • Use the UTA donor contribution form, designating Student Publications as the recipient.
  • Send checks to UTA Student Publications Director; Box 19038; Arlington, TX 76019.

For information about Student Publications scholarships or to establish a new award or scholarship, contact Director Beth Francesco.
