April 2, 2021

In anticipation of improving conditions, The University of Texas at Arlington is planning for the majority of fall 2021 courses to be in-person, while still maintaining some of the flexibility that proved popular with students over the last year. Summer 2021 will be primarily hybrid with both in-person and online courses.

We want you to begin your planning, too. To help, course modality information is now available in MyMav for summer 2021 and fall 2021, with priority registration for both semesters beginning April 5. Please consult the schedule in MyMav so you can start registering and making your plans for the fall term.

It’s important that you understand the terminology you will find in MyMav, as some of it has changed from recent semesters. While summer modality options will remain unchanged from recent semesters, we have new modalities for the fall. These modality definitions for fall 2021 will help you in your course planning and correspond to what you will see in MyMav:

  • ON CAMPUS: Majority On Campus. The majority of course instruction, exams and projects delivered on-campus or at designated instructional sites, in-person.
  • SYNC ONLINE: Synchronous online. All course instruction, materials, exams and projects delivered online; some or all will require online attendance on specific day/time schedule noted in MyMav and on syllabus.
  • ASYN ONLINE: Asynchronous Online. All course instruction, materials, exams and projects delivered online and asynchronously. No synchronous meetings, exams or projects.
  • CAMPUS EXAMS & SYNC ONLINE INSTR: One to four campus class sessions/exams; synchronous online instruction. At least one and up to four one-hour (or equivalent) on-campus class sessions/exams on specified days/times noted in MyMav and on syllabus. Some or all other course instruction, materials, exams and projects delivered online synchronously following the class schedule.
  • CAMPUS EXAMS & ASYN ONLINE INSTR: One to four campus class sessions/exams; asynchronous online instruction. At least one and up to four one-hour (or equivalent) on-campus class sessions/exams on specified days/times noted in MyMav and on syllabus. All other course instruction, materials, exams and projects delivered online and asynchronously.
  • 5+ CAMPUS SESSIONS & SYNC ONLINE: Five-plus campus class sessions/exams, majority of instruction synchronous online. The majority (51%) of course instruction, materials, exams and projects delivered online, with at least five one-hour (or equivalent) on-campus class sessions/exams on specified days/times noted in MyMav and on syllabus.
  • 5+ CAMPUS SESSIONS & ASYN ONLINE: Five-plus campus class sessions/exams, majority of instruction asynchronous online. The majority of course instruction, materials, exams and projects delivered online, with at least five one-hour (or equivalent) on-campus class sessions/exams on specified days/times noted in MyMav and on syllabus.

We strongly encourage you to discuss your academic plans with your advisor, who can assist in developing creative solutions to your unique situation.

As Mavericks, we will continue to follow public health guidelines and observe common-sense measures to keep one another safe. As always, continue to check the University’s Coronavirus Information page, which is UTA’s official site for up-to-date information on campus operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
