SBC awards

Mavs take three top honors from Sun Belt; four teams head to championship tourneys this week

UTA received top individual awards from the Sun Belt Conference including Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year. LEARN MORE.

The men's basketball team is the top seed in the SBC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament in New Orleans. The Mavmen begin tournament play 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 10. The Lady Mavs are the No. 2 seed for the SBC women's tournament and start play at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in New Orleans. Tickets are available online for the SBC tournament.

The Movin' Mavs and Lady Movin' Mavs wheelchair basketball teams both secured No. 1 seeds going into the National Wheelchair Basketball Intercollegiate Championships Thursday-Saturday, March 9-11, in Whitewater, Wisc. The Lady Movin' Mavs are the returning women's champion.


Zakaria says diversity, technology keys to success

CNN host Fareed Zakaria noted that diversity, respect for personal differences, and America's technology leadership are elements for a positive future. The economic and political columnist spoke Tuesday night at College Park Center. His appearance was the last Maverick Speakers Series event of the season.

Candidates for provost to visit campus

Candidates for provost and vice president for academic affairs will have sessions open to the University community at 4 p.m. Monday, March 20, in Room 254 of the Business Building and 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, in Room 252 of the Business Building. Each candidate will speak and then answer questions.

The candidate's name will be released 24 hours in advance of his or her campus visit.

Mav Milestones

UTA President Vistasp Karbhari visited with Little Miss Choctaw Nation and Miss Choctaw Nation at the Native American Students Association's Benefit Powwow. The annual gathering raised $1,225 for scholarships and featured dance and drum competitions, a veterans' honor ceremony, Native American foods, and vendors. Verify that UTA has the correct home address, phone number, W-4 information, ethnicity, and veteran status. Find the UT Share link on the left side of the Faculty and Staff webpage.
