Turn off a light during heat wave

With the current heat wave this week, turning off lights where possible helps UTA save on electricity for lighting and air conditioning, particularly during peak demand hours.

  • We save on electricity for the lighting as well for the air conditioning that cools heat generated by the lighting.
  • A significant part of our charges are tied to “peak demand” for the season. By eliminating a new “spike” in our demand charges, UTA can save significantly.

Facilites Management requests that you please turn off:

  • non-essential lights, particularly in the afternoon
  • coffee pots if not in use
  • computer screens whenever the workspace is unoccupied

Just a little effort across campus can add up to hundreds of dollars saved and puts less pressure on the energy grid.
