Spring Class of 2020 makes history

Spring Commencement 2020 at UT Arlington is unlike any in the University’s history.

There were more than 6,000 graduation applications this semester, including 365 prelicensure nurses who will enter the workforce to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more about the Class of 2020.

Be sure to watch the online celebration, Cheers! To the Class of 2020, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17. The event includes memories shared by the graduates, messages from campus leaders, and special guests.

An in-person celebration will be held when circumstances and health guidelines make it possible.

Steam service outage next week

The Thermal Energy Plant has planned its annual outage of campus steam service to complete inspection and repair requirements of the system components. The outage is scheduled to begin at midnight on Monday, May 18. Normal operations should resume by 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 23.

During the time designated, the buildings served by the Thermal Energy Plant will be without hot water and steam. Electrical power, air conditioning, chilled water, and domestic cold water services will still be available.

UTA to inspect sewer pipes for Coppell

Ali Abolmaali, professor and chair of the Civil Engineering Department, will lead a project with the city of Coppell on robotic inspections of sewer pipelines and material testing of core samples from those pipelines to predict their service life.

The project will lead to informed predictions of the remaining service life of the pipelines. The Energy-Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, or electron microscope, analyzes chemical properties of the pipes that help predict their strength and service life.

Improve processes

Register for the Process Improvement courses: Foundations of Process Improvement starts Monday, May 18, and Advanced Process Improvement starts Tuesday, June 2.
