Summer, fall plans include face masks

The University will implement a face-covering protocol, effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, until further notice. Read the announcement about UTA's summer and fall plans for campus and for keeping all students, staff, faculty, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and visitors safe.

Submit a request form for masks for your department or lab. Masks for individuals are available at Central Library and the Information Desk at the University Center.

Testing protocols for outpatient reopening

Venu Varanasi, associate professor of nursing, and bioengineering graduate student Sara Peper are working with UT Health Science Center in Houston to develop COVID-19 testing protocols to assist in decisions during the reopening of outpatient surgery and services at the university and its partner hospitals.

Dr. Varanasi also has an appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and is a founding member of UTA's Bone Muscle Research Center in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation.

Junzhou Huang

Customized treatment for lung cancer

Junzhou Huang, associate professor of computer science and engineering, has teamed up with a colleague at UT Southwestern Medical Center on a biopsy image analysis that will help pinpoint care for lung cancer patients.

Dr. Huang is working with UT Southwestern’s Guanghua Xiao on a Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) project using machine-learning algorithms and computational biology to refine lung cancer treatments.

Nominations for the Outstanding Assessment Practitioner awards (faculty or academic-related staff) are due by Friday, June 12. Email diane.waryashughey@uta.edu with questions.

Training, podcasts available

Register for training for the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Register for "Taking Federal Leave Time for COVID-19" for Wednesday, June 17. Three podcasts also are planned.

Donate to food pantry

The UTA/Tri-C Food Pantry is in need of canned fruit and vegetables for the 85-110 clients served each Thursday. To donate, call 817-933-6520.
