Shelton heads city's Unity Council

Jason Shelton, associate professor of anthropology and sociology and the director of the Center for African American Studies, is leading the city of Arlington’s new Unity Council as its chairman.

Created this summer by city officials, the council’s goal is to increase equality in Arlington through community input and by examining equity strategies.

Kermanshachi honored as educator

Sharareh (Sherri) Kermanshachi, assistant professor of civil engineering, has been selected as the Mark Hasso Educator of the Year by the Construction Management Association of America.

Kermanshachi, who joined UTA in fall 2016, is an expert in construction engineering and management, resilient and interdependent infrastructures, project performance optimization, and probabilistic risk analysis.

A new semester, a steadfast commitment

"In a few short weeks, we will begin a new semester," Interim President Teik Lim said in a message today. "We’re all incredibly excited for an enriching experience this fall, despite these unusual times. To keep our campus community as safe and healthy as possible, it will require each one of us to do our part."

Visit OIT Return Help for tech help and recommendations for returning to campus, including in-person IT support, Microsoft Teams-compatible headset or desktop phone orders, and other tech needs.

Complete training

You must complete the COVID-19 Return to Campus Training before your department's start date for the repopulation phase. The course is offered in Canvas.

Coronavirus Prevention: Clean Your Surroundings. Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, such as phones, desks, tables, keyboards, remote controls, door knobs, etc.

Be a group advisor

Consider being a student organization advisor. UTA has more than 300 registered student groups. Check them out on mavorgs.uta.edu.

Volunteer for move-in

Volunteers are needed to help with the Move-In Event for residence halls to hand out swag and membership packets to parents and family members Saturday-Tuesday, Aug. 22-25.

Student employment fair

Access the virtual services for faculty and staff offered by the Lockheed Martin Career Development Center. The Virtual Student Employment Job Fair is 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24.

Activity Fair Day helpers

Represent your department at Activity Fair Days 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 2, 9, and 16. The three-day event includes fewer tables for proper social distancing. Register your department.

I-9 verification

New employees and rehires with a break of longer than one year need to complete I-9 verification to begin working at UTA.

Procurement year-end requisition deadline

The Procurement Office reports that all requisitions, including MAV eSHOP purchases, must be fully approved in UTShare by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14.

Requisitions must be submitted, fully approved, and successfully budget-checked in UTShare. This includes all applicable approvals required, including the Office of Information Technology, Web Accessibility, and Information Security.

Requisition sourcing is turned off as of this date, including MAV eSHOP requisitions, in order to allow time for order processing and payments prior to year-end closing.

Requisitions received after the close of business on August 14 will be cancelled in UTShare and can be re-entered after Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Network maintenance set

Faculty, staff, and students may experience intermittent access to the UTA network during scheduled maintenance 2-7 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16. Contact the IT Help Desk for any questions.

Complete an online survey and volunteer for a one-hour virtual focus group for a new transportation pilot program, Arlington RAPID. Respond by Friday, Aug. 14.
