CAPPA scholars honored

Bradley Bell and Kathryn Holliday recently won the 2020 Honor Awards from the Texas Society of Architects.

Bell is associate professor and director of the School of Architecture in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs.

Dr. Holliday is professor and founding director of the David Dillon Center for Texas Architecture.

Brain injury research

The Office of Naval Research has awarded a grant to Ashfaq Adnan, professor of mechanical engineering, to acquire equipment for nanoscale damage analysis of brains.

The Defense University Research Instrumentation Program grant will aid Dr. Adnan's research into blast-related traumatic brain injuries.

UTA mechanical engineering Professor-in-Practice Robert Taylor is co-investigator on the project.

JCPenney Suit-Up Event

For the JCPenney Suit-Up Event Friday-Sunday, Sept. 4-6, text UTA to 67292 for an extra 30% career-related apparel. The text will provide one code to use in stores and another to use online.

Labor Day holiday

The UTA will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for the Labor Day holiday. MavWire will return Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Mental Health First Aid

The monthly Mental Health First Aid classes for faculty and staff teach you to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Register online.

Suicide prevention course

The QPR training for suicide prevention covers the warning signs and teaches how to intervene with at-risk individuals. Faculty-staff sessions are Sept. 22, Oct. 23, and Nov. 18.

Naturally Slim, UT System's online weight loss program, is free. Sign up by Friday, Sept. 11. The program starts Monday, Sept. 28. Read more.

Fill out a voter registration application online, print it, sign it, and mail it to the voter registrar in your county of residence. Your registration becomes effective 30 days after it is submitted and accepted.
