UT Arlington among top in social mobility

UTA ranks among the top performers nationwide on social mobility in a U.S. News & World Report assessment of how well universities enroll and graduate economically disadvantaged students.

Homecoming postponed

UTA has postponed its Homecoming celebration, originally set for Nov. 9-14, in observance of public health guidelines for large gatherings and with campus safety as its top priority.

Largest class reported

CBS affiliate KXTX 11 and the Fort Worth Business Press reported on UTA's largest freshman class. The 3,820 freshmen enrolled for the fall term represents a 6.8% increase in first-time-in-college students.

Policy changes, additions

GA-LA-PO7 Clery Act Compliance Policy: The policy establishes UTA’s commitment to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses.

GA-LA-PR7 Clery Act Compliance Procedure: The procedure sets forth the procedures, processes, and departmental responsibilities to comply with the UTA Clery Act Compliance Policy.

RA-PO2 Policy for Disclosure, Management, and Reporting of Conflicts of Interest in Research: Updates were made to bring the required training frequency in line with federal regulations and UT System standards. The training was set at two years, but it has been extended to four years.

RA-PO8 Policy for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules: The policy establishes UTA’s practices and containment procedures for basic and clinical research involving recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, including the creation and use of organisms and viruses containing recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules.

RA-PO9 Policy for Institutional Oversight of Life Sciences Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC): This is a new policy to help UTA comply with the U.S. government regulations regarding research activities that involve nonattenuated forms of high-consequence agents or toxins. UTA is committed to preserving the benefits of life sciences research while minimizing the risk that knowledge, information, products, or technologies generated by such research could be used in a manner that results in harm.

Food Pantry needs

The UTA/Tri-C Food Pantry also distributes essential non-food items. Current needs are shampoo, body wash, bar soap, deodorant, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets. To donate, call 817-933-6520.

Diversity training series begins next month

The Office of Human Resources offers a Diversity Education Training Series with the goal of promoting an understanding of each other, despite our cultural differences.

Three unique sessions will be offered through December: "Cultural Conflict & White Fragility," "Cultural Competence in the Workplace," and "Cultural Pluralism in Higher Education: The Teeth are Smiling, but is the Heart?"
