Translators in action

Alumnus Douglas Interiano ('08 BA, Spanish), founder of Proyecto Inmigrante ICS Inc., and Professor Alicia Rita Rueda-Acedo, director of UTA's Spanish Translation and Interpreting program, joined forces to enable her students to provide more than 3,300 hours translating 3,000-plus documents for individuals and families seeking a home in the United States.

Wei Chen

Physics professor recognized

Wei Chen, professor of physics, was selected as a fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials in recognition of his original and significant research in the fields of materials science, engineering, and technology.

Dr. Chen specializes in developing nanomaterials for highly selective cancer treatments and bioimaging techniques.

Julia Cornwell honored by UT System

Julia Cornwell, senior director of Procurement and Payment Services, was named a recipient of the UT System Supply Chain Alliance’s Golden Link Award during the Alliance’s annual Power of Collaboration conference Oct. 9.

The Golden Link Award is given annually to a member who goes above and beyond in representing the Alliance through their collaborative participation in initiatives that benefit all UT System components.

COVID-19 testing

Faculty and staff who wish to receive COVID-19 tests should reference the Faculty & Staff Coronavirus Resources page to locate statewide testing sites. Covered employees can also contact Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for assistance finding a provider with the best location for individual needs. COVID-19 testing with an in-network provider is free for those with UT Select and UT Connect coverage.

OER conferences

UTA Libraries sponsors participation in two virtual Open Education Resources conferences. Applicants are required to include a statement about why they are interested. Apply by Sunday, Oct. 25.

Leadership Academy deadline

The deadline to apply for the UTA Leadership Academy has been extended to Friday, Oct. 30. Learn the essential characteristics and skills needed to be an effective leader in higher education.

Effective Teaching course

UTA faculty attendance is free for the Association of College and University Educators' Course in Effective Teaching Practices. Applications are due by Friday, Oct 30.

Early voting at MAC

The Maverick Activities Center serves as an early voting polling place for the Nov. 3 elections. The poll is open through Friday, Oct. 30. See the schedule.

WFSN Book Club

The Women’s Faculty and Staff Network will discuss We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie at noon Tuesday, Oct. 20, live on Teams and on the blog through Saturday, Oct. 31.

College Park Dollars

Starting Monday, Oct. 19, UTA meal plan users will be able to use College Park Dollars at all on-campus dining locations. The change ensures the dollars benefit users after the closure of Panera Bread.
