Winter Weather Impact Update and Important Information for UTA Employees

The University of Texas at Arlington is working around the clock to keep campus facilities operational and to restore or maintain essential services for our campus residents.

Be aware that the latest National Weather Service forecast predicts overnight temperatures to be even colder than recent nights, falling into the teens and perhaps single digits. Wind chills could range from minus 5 to 10 degrees on Friday morning, with refreezing of slush/snow/ice on the roadways. Take precautions and stay safe.

Please continue reading for important updates.

Boil water notice

The city of Arlington continues to advise its residents and the UTA campus to boil water before consumption.

The drop in water pressure citywide and on our campus is being attributed to increased demand from dripping faucets, as well as water and plumbing line breaks in the city. The city anticipates restoring water pressure to normal levels by Friday evening. Please conserve water until pressure is restored.

All individuals who are on campus or live in Arlington should boil water for at least five minutes and then allow it to cool completely before using it for drinking water, brushing their teeth, cooking, washing their hands, etc. Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all residents should follow these directions.

The drop in water pressure has inhibited the University’s ability to produce steam used to heat many of its buildings. UTA anticipates restoring heat continuously over the next two to three days.
