Movin' Mavs add 9th national title

UTA's Movin' Mavs wheelchair basketball team won its ninth national championship in Saturday's game against the University of Alabama. The men's team won 66-51.

This is the second national championship for coach Doug Garner, who has led the team since 2009. UTA was undefeated last year but the national championship tourney was canceled because of COVID-19.

The Lady Mavs fell to Alabama 67-53 in Saturday's women's championship game. The Lady Mavs have won two national titles.

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association's collegiate tournament was held at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

DeBerry finishes top 8 in NCAA high jump

UT Arlington's Bryson DeBerry finished in the top 8 in the nation in the high jump on Friday at the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.

Tech author Vivek Wadhwa kicks off new Virtual Maverick Speakers Series

After a yearlong hiatus, UT Arlington’s Maverick Speakers Series is back in a new virtual format for its 13th season.

Vivek Wadhwa, technology entrepreneur and bestselling author, kicks off the new Virtual Maverick Speakers Series this month. The talk will be livestreamed at uta.edu/maverickspeakers and is free to watch.

Wadhwa will speak on “Navigating Technological Change at Light Speed” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25. His latest book, Your Happiness Was Hacked: Why Tech is Winning the Battle to Control Your Brain—and How to Fight Back, was published in 2018.

Remind grads to RSVP for commencement

All 2020 and spring 2021 graduates should RSVP with their intention to participate in an in-person or virtual commencement ceremony by Wednesday, March 17. To do so, they should register with MarchingOrder using their UTA student email address.

Scheduling outdoor campus events

Under the Interim Guidelines for Campus Events, small outdoor events that support the core mission of the University are permitted. Social distancing, safety protocols, and CDC guidelines apply.

Academic and administrative departments can request to reserve space via the Division of Student Affairs’ Student Organizations Office.
