Dr. Vincent Tinto is coming to UTA. April 16. Student Success, Belonging, & Retention.

Tinto to share insight on student success, retention

Higher education expert Vincent Tinto will address "Student Success, Belonging, & Retention" at 9-10:15 a.m. Friday, April 16, on Teams.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Tinto has studied improving retention rates and how colleges can ensure that their students succeed. His books, Leaving College: Rethinking the Causes and Cures for Student Attrition and Completing College: Rethinking Institutional Actions, are recognized as resources and action plans for colleges and universities.

The event will cover promoting student persistence through a vehicle of an enhanced sense of student belonging, self-efficacy, motivation, and an improved student experience.  Additionally, he will address providing a foundation of understanding for UTA on the importance of belonging in student success and our role in actionable strategies and tactics to effect change.

The program is for faculty, staff, advisors, administrators, and graduate students.

The event is sponsored by the Center for Research on Teaching and Learning Excellence, the Division of Student Success, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Provost’s Office.

Stop Hate Town Hall

Multicultural Affairs provides a space for Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander community members to be heard so that we all, allies included, feel empowered.

The virtual Stop AAPI Hate Town Hall is at 3-5 p.m. today, Monday, March 29.

Distance Ed new website

The Center for Distance Education's new website is now live. The site includes infographics, videos, training registration, and other resources to assist faculty and staff with Canvas, instructional design, and much more.

Dynamic View coming

A new Teams meeting feature, Dynamic View, automatically arranges camera feeds and shared content while also allowing users to personalize their view for better engagement during meetings. The option will arrive in April.

MyMav maintenance

MyMav will be unavailable for maintenance from 6 p.m. Friday, April 9, to 8 a.m. Monday, April 12. Learn more about the MyMav Extended Maintenance.

Pop-ups at Brazos Park

Dining pop-ups this week are The Salty Donut 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, and Tre's BBQ 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 31. Both will be at Brazos Park.

HEERF II emergency grants

UTA can provide financial assistance through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II) to eligible students facing additional expenses due to the pandemic.

Theater productions

Save the dates for two shows by the Maverick Theatre Company. Spring Awakening and Tragedians Anonymous will be available on video on demand Friday-Monday, April 2-5. Tickets are $5.

Dialogues in Art

Art and Art History hosts a Dialogues in Art discussion panel on "Art, History, Technology" at 3 p.m. Friday, April 9, on Teams.
