Tinto to talk on student success, retention

Don't miss higher education expert Vincent Tinto when he addresses "Student Success, Belonging, & Retention" at 9-10:15 a.m. Friday, April 16, on Teams. Please RSVP by Wednesday, April 14.

The event will cover promoting student persistence through a vehicle of an enhanced sense of student belonging, self-efficacy, motivation, and an improved student experience.  Additionally, Dr. Tinto will address providing a foundation of understanding for UTA on the importance of belonging in student success and our role in actionable strategies and tactics to effect change.

Outstanding Maverick Awards

Outstanding Mavericks

Nominate employees who exemplify “being a Maverick” in all that they do for the Outstanding Maverick Awards.

Every year UTA recognizes eight individuals and one team for their outstanding performance, service excellence, enthusiasm, and dedication in their jobs. Individual honorees receive $1,000 and the team honorees will share $1,000.

The deadline to submit the nomination form is Friday, May 21.

Sustainability Faculty Advisory Network

The Institute for Sustainability and Global Impact is launching a Faculty Advisory Network on Sustainability.

An introductory meeting is set for May. The network will officially kick off in the fall.

Esports invitational champs

The UTA esports team recently won the Collegiate Esports Invitational, with the winning Mavericks earning $6,000 in scholarships.

Cheer, dance honors

The UTA cheerleaders took fourth place at the National Cheerleaders Association College National Championship in the Advanced Small Coed D1 division. The dance team placed fourth in Divison I overall and third in hip-hop in the National Dance Association championships.

Volunteer for commencement

Assist with UTA's nine commencement ceremonies by signing up for at least two shifts and completing the UTA Commencement Volunteer Form by Wednesday, April 21. Meals, shirts, and UTA-branded masks will be provided to volunteers.

Summer programs

Requests forms to host a virtual or on-campus day program for summer 2021 are due by Thursday, April 15. For a form, contact University Compliance Services at compliance@uta.edu or 817-272-2080.

Music legend in next virtual Maverick Speakers Series

Spend an evening with a Pulitzer Prize-winning jazz musician legend at the next virtual Maverick Speakers Series event. "An Evening with Wynton Marsalis" is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27. The event is free.

Described as one of the world’s top classical trumpeters, Marsalis is renowned as a big band leader in the tradition of Duke Ellington, a brilliant composer, a devoted advocate for the arts, and a tireless and inspiring educator.

It's Homerathon time

Lend your voice to Homerathon, a full-day reading of the Greek epic The Odyssey by Homer 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15, via Teams. Offer to read or simply listen to the tale.

Black Excellence Awards

Nominate faculty and staff for the Reby Cary Faculty Excellence Award and the Staff Excellence Award. Suggest a student for the Maxwell Scarlett Outstanding Student Award. Nominations are due Saturday, May 1.
