UTA among most innovative institutions

Innovators and inventors from UT Arlington were granted 23 patents in 2020, contributing to the University of Texas System’s overall No. 4 ranking in the list of Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Utility Patents in 2020.

Underwater archeology

Ashley Lemke, assistant professor of sociology and anthropology, is part of a research team studying 9,000-year-old stone tool artifacts discovered in Lake Huron.

Flavor ban

Ziyad Ben Taleb, assistant professor of kinesiology and a tobacco control expert, provides insight into the Food and Drug Administration’s proposed ban of menthol in cigarettes and all flavors in cigars.

Listening sessions

Learn more about plans for the 2021-22 academic year and the planned return to campus at the Staff Listening Session at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, and the Faculty Listening Session at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 15. Both are in Teams.

Constituent relationship management

UTA is implementing Slate, a constituent relationship management software, that will substantially help the University more effectively and efficiently recruit and retain students and unify communication strategies.

Vaccine site closing today

The on-campus COVID‑19 vaccination site powered by OptumServe will end operations at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 16. UTA students and employees can still walk in to receive a vaccine. The site is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Physical Education Building, 801 Greek Row.

UTA employees and students also can receive their vaccines with priority access at six Texas Health Vaccine Hubs around the DFW Metroplex until further notice. Visit the COVID‑19 Vaccination Information and Resources webpage for more information on vaccine opportunities for the UTA community.

Proactive testing for COVID‑19 is available on campus through the Curative Testing Center.

Juneteenth celebration Thursday

Join featured speaker Pamela “Safisha” Hill at UTA’s Juneteenth celebration 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Brazos Park.

Juneteenth—June 19—commemorates the day in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation was read to enslaved African Americans in Texas after the conclusion of the Civil War, which ended more than two months earlier.

Dr. Hill, adjunct assistant professor of social work, is a diversity, equity, and inclusion educator and a consultant at Diverse EduCultural Consulting in Dallas.

A DJ, entertainment, prizes, and barbecue are part of the festivities. Students should bring their Mav ID.

Faculty and staff meal plans

Two meal plans offer faculty and staff options for dining on campus. Use your ID card for meal swipes, Dining Dollars, or the meal exchanges.

Wondr weight-loss program

Wondr is a UT System program that is clinically proven to help you lose weight, sleep better, stress less, and so much more. Sign up for the program, formerly known as Naturally Slim, through Sunday, June 20.

Staff Conference

The annual Staff Conference is July 13-15 on Teams. This year's focus is on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Staff Advisory Council sponsors the event.

Network maintenance on two Sundays

The UTA network will be unavailable due to maintenance 2-7 a.m. Sunday, June 20, and Sunday, June 27.
