Looking Back But Moving Forward: A look at art and art history at UTA, 1938-today

UTA's art history on display

Take a look back at how the art and art history curriculum and works have evolved at UTA since its founding in 1938.

Beginning with a look at the role art played during the war effort of the 1940s, visitors will have an opportunity to view vintage yearbooks, photography, and historical documents of the Art and Art History Department’s Archives and Fine Art Collections.

The exhibition also features a playful look back at how the study of art history and its methods have developed since the early 20th century. On view are a series of magazines, periodicals, slide projectors, vintage equipment, board and video games, comic books, graphic novels, and a series of 3D-printed figures used in course curriculum.

Looking Back But Moving Forward is on exhibit through Sept. 7 at the Visual Resource Commons & Gallery, Suite 2109 in the Fine Arts Building. The gallery is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.
