Research lab

Winning projects feature collaborations among science, engineering, and the arts

UT Arlington has awarded research grants to seven interdisciplinary teams focusing on key areas related to health care technology, personalized medicine, social issues, and cognitive processes.

The Interdisciplinary Research Program (IRP) began in 2015 to catalyze research collaborations across academic disciplines in alignment with the guiding themes of the University’s strategic plan: health and the human condition, sustainable communities, global environmental impact, data-driven discovery, and cultural understanding and social transformations.

The IRP is a flagship initiative of the Office of Research.

Report education, training for employees

Texas statute requires UTA to report spending greater than $5,000 per person per individual education or training course toward a professional license, certification, or degree. UTA reports this information to the Legislative Budget Board on Tuesday, Aug. 31, of each fiscal year. Access a spreadsheet template with more information on reporting required expenditures to the Office of Procurement and Payment Services.

Completed spreadsheets must be emailed no later than Friday, Aug. 20, to Julia Cornwell, senior director of Procurement and Payment Services, at cornwell@uta.edu.

Blunt effects

Ziyad Ben Taleb, assistant professor of kinesiology and director of UTA’s Nicotine and Tobacco Research Laboratory, said research into the various forms of marijuana consumption demonstrates that each method involves distinct risks.

Emergency generator test Thursday

Facilities Management will test the emergency electrical generators 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at the University Administration Building.

This testing will only affect the electrical services tied to the building’s generator, not the entire building. There will be a slight “blip” lasting approximately one half of a second. This transfer may be made more than once to ensure the generator is operating properly. The testing period will last less than 45 minutes.

Save any computer work/data in progress to prevent any possible data loss. Turn off all electronic equipment; it does not need to be unplugged.
