Tier One Celebration today at Brazos Park

Join the campus community for a celebration of UTA’s designation as a Texas Tier One University 2-3 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 12, in Brazos Park. Come for refreshments, giveaways, and entertainment, plus remarks at 2:30 p.m.

Homecoming packed with fun Saturday

Get a start on this weekend's Homecoming celebration with wheelchair basketball action at the Jim Hayes Memorial Tournament starting today, Friday, Nov. 12.

Homecoming reaches its peak on Saturday, Nov. 13, with the following events.

The Homecoming 5K starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. There's still time to register to compete.

In the afternoon, Mavericks take it to the streets. At the Street Festival set for 1-5 p.m., you can play games, enjoy food at complimentary sampling tents, get a temp tattoo, and check out all the fun activities. Cheer on the Lady Mavs basketball team against Sam Houston at 2 p.m.

The Homecoming Parade gets rolling at 5:15 p.m. and ends at College Park Center for a rally before the Maverick men's basketball game against Mary Hardin Baylor at 7 p.m. Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at half-time.

Road closures for Homecoming events

In support of Homecoming festivities this week, parts of campus will experience road closures.

  • Spaniolo Drive from UTA Boulevard to Third Street, from 9 a.m. today, Friday, Nov. 12, until midnight Saturday, Nov. 13.
  • West Nedderman from UTA Boulevard to Greek Row Drive, 7 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 13.
  • Some streets near the Maverick Circle/faculty lot 11 and College Park District, 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.
Homecoming,. Saturday, Nov. 13, College Park Center. Women's Basketball vs Sam Houston, 2 p.m. Men's Basketball vs. Mary Hardin Baylor, 7 p.m.

Commitment to veterans

Military and Veterans Services will host two events to show appreciation of the military in recognition of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and UTA's commitment to veterans, who constitute a large contingent on campus.

Micro-housing for seniors

The College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs is leading a cross-disciplinary research project to design and build micro-housing that can be embedded with technology that allows older people to live safely and independently at home.

Exercise for survivors

Yue Liao, assistant professor of kinesiology, found that cancer survivors improved their quality of life, physical activity level, and physical functioning after completing a 12-week group-based exercise program.

Game day parking

Current UTA permit holders can park for free during basketball games in event lots including College Park North, Central, South, or other surface lots.

COVID-19 vaccine clinics scheduled

UTA has four COVID‑19 vaccine clinics planned, including two to serve ages 5-11. These free walk-in-only clinics will be in the Maverick Activities Center.

The clinics for ages 12 and older are in the Group Exercise Room 101B.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 1, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The clinics for ages 5 years and older are in room 100B.

  • Saturday, Nov. 20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

American Recycles Day. Electronic Waste Recycling and Trivia.

E-waste recycling event

Bring your old computers, accessories, and more to the Electronic Waste Recycling Event for America Recycles Day 1:30-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, on the UC mall near Woolf Hall.

E-waste includes printer cartridges, batteries, and anything that runs on electricity. See what can be recycled.

This event is to recycle personal items. No UTA assets will be accepted.

Stop by the trivia table for a chance to win some sustainable prizes.

Take a few minutes to share your thoughts in the UTA Bookstore survey.

Adopt an Angel

Help a local child with clothing, shoes, and toys through the Salvation Army Angel Tree. Stop by the Follett Student Leadership Center or email utavolunteers@uta.edu for more information on adopting an angel. Adoptions close Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Learn about the personal stories and college experiences of several UTA first-generation students at First-Generation Panel: #IAmFirst: First-Generation Student Voices 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the Lonestar Theater of the Maverick Activities Center.

A first-generation social follows at 5-6 p.m. on the second floor lounge of the MAC.
