Lady Mavs basketball team wins Sun Belt Conference championship

Lady Mavs win Sun Belt Tournament, head to NCAA tourney

The UT Arlington women's basketball team wrapped up its last Sun Belt Conference Tournment Championship game with a 76-61 victory over top-seeded Troy on Monday.

With the win, the Lady Mavs advance to their third NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2007.

UTA will learn its opening opponent during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13, on ESPN. Information regarding a public watch party for Lady Mav fans and supporters will be announced in the coming days.

Wheelchair Basketball National Championships: March 17-19, 2022, College Park Center.

Wheelchair basketball national championships

UTA will host the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Intercollegiate Championships Thursday-Saturday, March 17-19, at College Park Center. The Movin' Mavs hope to retain the title, and the Lady Movin' Mavs aim to collect their third championship.

Track trio heads to NCAA

Bryson DeBerry, Jade Bontke, and Lucas Van Klaveren are heading to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday-Saturday, March 11-12. The trio won at the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Indoor Championship: DeBerry in high jump, Bontke in the pentathlon, and Van Klaveren in the heptathlon.

Iyana Gray has earned the SBC Indoor Freshman of the Year title. Fourteen Mavericks won spots on the Sun Belt's All-Conference teams.

A national exhibit featuring a statue of Minerva Cordero, professor of mathematics, is on display at the Smithsonian Institution through March 27.

CONHI continuing ed reaccreditation

The College of Nursing and Health Innovation received reaccreditation for nursing continuing educational activities from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

MavPitch winners

The Maverick Entrepreneur Program and Award Fund awarded $61,000 to five students representing their entrepreneurial startups at the MavPitch business pitch competition, the flagship component of the program.

A Path Forward

What's open on campus

Spring Break hours

Check the hours during Spring Break—Monday-Friday, March 14-18—for the UTA Libraries, Maverick Activities Center, and on-campus dining locations. The Starbucks at the UTA Bookstore will be open.

Parking lot repairs

During Spring Break, several parking lots will have repairs. Parking rules are relaxed with "after 5 p.m." rules in effect Monday-Friday, March 14-18. Customers can park in most lots and garages all day long as if it were after 5 p.m., except for reserved spots. Permits are still required.

Military Friendly designation

UT Arlington received a top 10 Military Friendly® School designation for 2022-23 for setting up military-connected students for success both in and out of the classroom.

Women's health exhibit

Women's Health, Women's Bodies is a mini-exhibit of artifacts, documents, and photographs that runs through Thursday, March 31, on the sixth floor atrium of the Central Library.

COVID-19 vaccines, boosters on campus

UTA has scheduled additional on-campus clinics to offer the COVID‑19 vaccines and booster, free of cost, to UTA students, employees, and their families and dependents. The next are Wednesdays, March 16 and March 30.

Each clinic will operate on a walk-in-only basis 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 102B in the Maverick Activities Center.

At UTA’s on-campus clinics, operated in partnership with Walmart, individuals 12 and older can receive first and second doses of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Booster doses are available for all eligible individuals.
