Today is MavsDay: One Day for UTA

UTA’s annual day of giving, MavsDay, is today, Thursday, April 21. MavsDay is an opportunity for the entire UTA community to come together to support University scholarships, schools and colleges, athletics teams, programs, and more. With the support of the UTA community, we can make a lasting impact and inspire the next generation.

Health care informatics

The College of Nursing and Health Innovation’s new postbaccalaureate graduate certificate in health care informatics aims to train students early in their careers on the value of health care data, how to gather it, and how to make informed decisions with it.

NAI chapter expands

UTA's National Academy of Inventors (NAI) chapter inducted more than 35 members at its inaugural annual luncheon. The chapter has 80 members. The University boasts 19 NAI fellows, the most of all institutions in Texas, and 11 senior members.

COVID and construction

Sharareh “Sherri” Kermanshachi, associate professor of civil engineering, will lead an investigation into the impact of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases on field workers at construction sites.

Student non-payment process

Starting this fall, UTA will no longer drop students from courses for non-payment. Instead, automatically will be placed on a payment plan to allow them to remain enrolled. The process does not apply to Accelerated Online programs. Read the announcement.

Volunteer for Commencement

Volunteers are still needed for UTA's seven commencement ceremonies. Sign up by Sunday, May 1, for more than one shift, if available, and complete the UTA Commencement Volunteer Form. All volunteers should attend one of two training sessions set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, and 9 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at College Park Center.

Campus picnic to welcome new president

Join UTA students, faculty, and staff for a special barbecue lunch and a chance to welcome UTA's 10th President Jennifer Cowley to the Maverick Family. A campus-wide picnic will be 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Brazos Park.

Vegetarian options will be available.

In case of inclement weather, the picnic will be held in the Bluebonnet Ballroom inside the E.H. Hereford University Center.

Learn about unique and innovative teaching strategies at the CRTLE Faculty Showcase 4-6 p.m. today, Thursday, April 21, in room 104 of Trinity Hall. The Center for Research on Teaching and Learning Excellence sponsors the programs featured.

Join the virtual discussion Everyday Ableism at noon Friday, April 22, to learn how disability stereotypes and microaggressions shape the disability experience and inform our personal and professional behaviors and attitudes.

Nominations needed for AAFSA awards

Nominations are open for the African American Faculty and Staff Association's annual awards recognizing faculty, staff, and students.

Complete nominations online for the Reby Cary Faculty Excellence Award, the Staff Excellence Award, and the Maxwell Scarlett Outstanding Student Award. Entries are due Thursday, May 5.

Winners will be recognized at the annual Evening of Black Excellence, Achievements, and Graduation Wednesday, May 11.

UTA's Latino students and their families are invited to Celebrando el Éxito, the first campus-wide Latino/Hispanic achievement ceremony 5:30-10 p.m. Friday, May 6, in the Lone Star Auditorium of the Maverick Activities Center.

Annual Glass Art Sale

Faculty, staff, and students get an early peek at the annual Glass Art Sale. Bring your UTA ID for the early sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Studio Arts Center. The sale for the general public is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

Women's tennis wins regular season, No. 3 seed

After securing a share of the Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship for a second straight year, the Maverick women's tennis team earned the No. 3 seed in the SBC Women's Tennis Championship starting today, Thursday, April 21, in Peachtree City, Ga.

The UT Arlington men's tennis team's season came to an end after falling to No. 2 seed South Alabama 4-0 in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Friday, April 15.

Maverick ties for second at SBC golf tourney

UT Arlington women's golf team tied for eighth place in the Sun Belt Conference Championship from LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. Junior Heidrun Hlynsdottir tied for second place after Monday's play.

The men's golf team goes to the SBC Championship Sunday-Wednesday, April 24-27, at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark.

Policy changes

BF-PM-PR-02 Acquisition, Receipt, and Distribution of University Property Procedure—Edits were made to sections regarding receiving and processing computers and definitions were updated.

HR-LA-PO-02 Sick Leave Pool Policy—This new policy replaced former procedure HR-LA-PR-08 and clarifies the eligibility requirements for UTA’s sick leave pool.

RA-PO-01 Misconduct in Research Policy—This policy was updated to clarify roles and responsibilities for investigating alleged research misconduct.

RA-PR-03 Faculty Research Supplemental Award Procedure—This procedure provides a mechanism for faculty with significant sponsored research activities to help cover their summer salary and a portion of their academic nine-month salary on sponsored funding. For faculty who off-load their academic nine-month appointment, it creates an opportunity for the department and college to realize budgetary savings for student support, instructions cost coverage, or other strategic needs. This procedure facilitates the opportunity for UTA to realize salary savings from sponsored funding and to recognize faculty that generate them.

SL-FA-PR-01 Scholarships Procedure—This new procedure is the result of a taskforce’s work to create a more uniform scholarship award process and is applicable to all UTA scholarships.

Survivor Ally Training

Survivor Ally virtual training is designed to assist faculty and staff in how to support students who identify as victims/survivors of sexual and/or relationship violence. The session is at noon Thursday, April 28.

MAV eShop info session

Procurement and Payment Services and Knowledge Services will host a virtual information session about MAV eShop, the University’s e-shopping portal, 1-2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, on Teams.
