Campus picnic to welcome new president

Join UTA students, faculty, and staff for a special barbecue lunch and a chance to welcome UTA's 10th president, Jennifer Cowley, to the Maverick family. A campus-wide picnic will be 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Brazos Park.

Vegetarian options will be available.

In case of inclement weather, the picnic will be held in the Bluebonnet Ballroom inside the E.H. Hereford University Center.

Be prepared for track meet parking

Parking on the west campus will be affected by two track meets Tuesday-Friday, April 26-29, at Maverick Stadium.

Parking lots used for the meets are lots 25 (intramural fields), 26 (Maverick Stadium), and 27 (Studio Arts Center). Overflow parking will go to lot 29 (Greek housing), Arbor Oaks/University Village and GR lots, and possibly lot 30 (tennis courts).

Active permit holders can continue to use these parking lots until they fill to capacity, which is expected to occur late morning. At that point, permit holders will need to seek an alternative parking location.

Remote Park and Ride permit holders may park in any blue or yellow student commuter parking lot during these events. UTA shuttles will continue to operate for students and employees.

Virtual support clinic

Students and faculty at the School of Social Work came up with a solution to meet student needs both in and out of the classroom. The Social Work Virtual Clinic offers virtual support groups led by graduate students for fellow Mavericks in need of counseling.

Volunteer for Commencement

Volunteer for UTA's seven commencement ceremonies. Complete the Commencement Volunteer Form by Sunday, May 1, for one or more shifts. All volunteers should attend one of two training sessions set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, and 9 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at College Park Center.

Nominate a SAC Star

Each month, the Staff Advisory Council recognizes a SAC Star as the embodiment of the UTA Maverick Spirit. Nominate someone you know who is exemplary in performance, customer service, creativity, and leadership.

Nominations needed for AAFSA awards

Nominations are open for the African American Faculty and Staff Association's annual awards recognizing faculty, staff, and students.

Complete nominations online for the Reby Cary Faculty Excellence Award, the Staff Excellence Award, and the Maxwell Scarlett Outstanding Student Award. Entries are due Thursday, May 5.

Winners will be recognized at the annual Evening of Black Excellence, Achievements, and Graduation Wednesday, May 11.

Year-end transactions

The Division of Business Affairs will host a year-end prep session at 4 p.m. today, Monday April 25, on Teams. The session is to ensure anyone involved in year-end transactions understands the processes and deadlines.

Share how you serve UTA's Hispanic community

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is collecting information about programs and initiatives focused on serving the Hispanic community at UTA.

DEI invites you to help us identify any programming you are directly involved with. This will help UTA pursue strategic opportunities and highlight initiatives supporting our Hispanic students, faculty, and staff.

The deadline to complete the short form is Friday, April 29.

Survivor Ally Training

Survivor Ally virtual training is designed to assist faculty and staff in how to support students who identify as victims/survivors of sexual and/or relationship violence. The session is at noon Thursday, April 28.

Read at Homerathon

The Department of Philosophy and Humanities and the University Classics Club sponsors the long-running UTA tradition of the Homerathon, a day-long reading of Homer's Odyssey 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, on the University Center mall. Volunteer to read.

Celebrando el Éxito

UTA's Latino students and their families are invited to Celebrando el Éxito, the first campus-wide Latino/Hispanic achievement ceremony, 5:30-10 p.m. Friday, May 6, in the Lone Star Auditorium of the Maverick Activities Center.

Annual Glass Art Sale

Faculty, staff, and students get an early peek at the annual Glass Art Sale. Bring your UTA ID for the early sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Studio Arts Center. The sale for the general public is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

MAV eShop info session

Procurement and Payment Services and Knowledge Services will host a virtual information session about MAV eShop, the University’s e-shopping portal 1-2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, on Teams.

Women's tennis 2nd at SBC

UTA's women's tennis team put in a good fight, but came in second against South Alabama for the 2022 title at the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Peachtree City, Ga.

The Mavericks end the season with a program record 23 wins, while making their first trip to the SBC Championship since 2015.

Sun Belt Conference honors for Maverick women's tennis include Diego Benitez as Coach of the Year and Sarina Reinertsen as Freshman of the Year. Liz Chileno was named to the Singles All-Conference First Team while Reinertsen and Tara Gorinsek earned Second Team honors

Men's tennis player Alan Sau Franco was named Sun Belt Conference First Team Singles All-Conference.

Men's golf

Coming off one of the best statistical regular seasons in program history, the men's golf team will tee it up in the Sun Belt Conference Championship through Wednesday, April 27, in El Dorado, Ark.

Maverick Open

Metro Golf Tournament

Sign up for the 47th Annual Metro Golf Tournament for faculty, staff, and alumni Monday, May 16, at Iron Horse Golf Course. Register by Monday, May 9. Breakfast, lunch, and prizes are planned.
