Commencement ceremonies begin Thursday

UT Arlington celebrates its newest graduates with Commencement ceremonies at College Park Center starting Thursday, May 12.

Each ceremony will be live streamed via go.uta.edu/commencement. A virtual Commencement will be available starting Saturday, May 14.

Tech-inspired healthy habits

A team of researchers hopes wearable technology will motivate cancer survivors to lead more active lifestyles. The project is in collaboration with clinicians from UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Cole named to commission

Glen Cole, assistant chief of the UTA Police Department, has been appointed to the accreditation commission of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.

PATS wins Program of the Year

Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) has been recognized as Program of the Year by the Southwest Parking and Transportation Association Board of Directors for the fourth time since 2018.

TCP training sessions

Two-part TCP training sessions for managers and timekeepers are offered in person Tuesday-Wednesday, May 10-11, and Thursday-Friday May 26-27. Register to attend.

Asian Heritage Celebration

Come out to the Asian Heritage Celebration 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the Levitt Pavillion in downtown Arlington. For the free event, bring your chairs, blankets, food, and drinks. Area parking is free. Food trucks will be on site.

Flexible summer hours program begins June 6

The popular flexible summer hours program runs Monday, June 6–Friday Aug. 12. Participating employees—including remote workers—work a compressed week of four 10-hour days with one day off during the work week.

Managers must give written approval, and employees must select Compressed Workweek on the Flexible Work Agreement Form HR-E-F10. A manager-approved copy must be submitted to Payroll Services at payroll@uta.edu before employees can begin the program. Schedules for non-exempt employees must include a minimum 30-minute lunch break.

Please keep in mind that if activities around returning to campus require additional focus and attention, any approved requests for this program may be ended sooner than what was originally requested.

UTA's email signature generator has been upgraded to be consistent with identity standards. The feature is part of the updated Identity System. Upgrade your email signature and make UTA’s identity strong and consistent as you communicate with individuals internally and externally.

Outstanding Academic Advisor Awards recipients were recognized in a virtual celebration this week. The winners and runners-up are:

Staff Advisor: Undergraduate—Barrie Hill, Criminal Justice, College of Liberal Arts. Runner-Up: Teaira Little, Education, College of Education.

Staff Advisor: Graduate—Valerie Adame, Social Work, School of Social Work. Runner-Up: Karolyn Field, Public Administration, College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs.

Faculty Advisor: Undergraduate—Kaci O’Donnell, English, College of Liberal Arts. Runner-Up: Linda Barasch, Computer Science, College of Engineering.

Steam outage to start May 16

The Thermal Energy Plant has planned its annual outage of campus steam service to complete inspection and repair requirements of the system components. The outage is scheduled to begin at midnight on Monday, May 16. Normal operations should resume by 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 21.

During the time designated, the buildings served by the Thermal Energy Plant will be without hot water and steam, including heated water for the swimming pool. Electrical power, air conditioning, chilled water, and domestic cold water services will still be available.
