New alliance formed

Twenty of the nation’s top research universities—including UT Arlington—announced the formation of the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities to increase opportunity for those historically underserved by higher education.

Latino humanities studies

UT Arlington, alongside some of the nation’s other top Hispanic-serving research universities, are working together on cross-regional projects in Latino humanities studies.

Honor society donation

A $50,000 gift from the Delta Theta Chapter 102 of Sigma, a nursing honor society, will provide a collaborative space in the new Smart Hospital where faculty can engage with students, enhancing the nursing learning environment.

Scott in fellows program

Stephanie Scott, associate vice president for Business Affairs and controller, was named to the 2022-23 Fellows Program of the National Association of College and University Business Officers.

Forums for VP of Research and Innovation

Virtual forums with final candidates for vice president for Research and Innovation are ongoing.

These forums are open to all students, faculty, and staff as an opportunity to engage with the finalists and provide feedback that will inform the final steps of the selection process. The sessions are:

Abolmaali goes to Wayne State

Ali Abolmaali has been named dean of the College of Engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. His position starts Aug. 15. The chair of the Civil Engineering Department, he is the Dr. Tseng Huang Endowed Professor in Structural Engineering and Applied Mechanics, the founding director of Center for Structural Engineering Research, and the professor-in-charge of the Structural Simulation Laboratory at UTA.

Parking notice for Wednesday

Parking and traffic in the College Park District will be affected when the WNBA Dallas Wings host Kids Day at noon Wednesday, June 15. Park South Lower Level, F13, and Lot 50-South will be closed to support the event. Reduced-rate permit holders may park in Lot 49.

Sophomore Arthur Petersen earned a sixth place finish in the javelin to highlight a tremendous first day for the UT Arlington Mavericks at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday evening in Eugene, Ore.

Nine Maverick men's and women's track and field athletes are competing at the highest of levels. The championships started Wednesday, June 8, and continue through Saturday, June 11.

In celebration of Pride Month, materials from the Tarrant County and UTA LGBTQA+ collections will be on display for Pride in the Archives exhibit through Thursday, June 30, in Special Collections on the sixth floor of Central Library.
