Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Faculty and staff with federal student loans may be eligible for loan forgiveness under temporary changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The temporary PLSF changes are set to last through Monday, Oct. 31. Learn more about the limited-time changes and eligibility.

Is your department or office seeking students for on-campus employment or work-study? Attend the Summer Virtual Student Employment Job Fair noon-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Parking permits available

The 2022-23 parking permits are now available for purchase through MavPark. The parking rates remain the same for the fourth year in a row for faculty and staff and for the fifth year in a row for students.

New employee parking pass

New employees at UTA can receive a complimentary seven-day parking permit while their information migrates into MavPark.The host department should email parking@uta.edu with the new employee's name and license plate, or the new employee can visit the parking office on their first day of work.

Eric Smith, a professor of biology, and a team of international researchers have discovered six new species of miniature frogs in Mexico.

Todd Castoe, professor of biology, was senior author on a study that describes how rattlesnakes diversify their venom to maintain an advantage in the ongoing “arms race” with evolving prey resistance.

Nicotine on notice

Ziyad Ben Taleb, assistant professor of public health, discusses plans to require tobacco companies to cut the amount of nicotine in traditional cigarettes and a recent ban of Juul e-cigarettes in the U.S.

Road crack

Suyun Ham, assistant professor of civil engineering, will develop an automatic crack evaluation system that could save time and money and prioritize maintenance for roads, bridges, and runways.

Excellence in sustainability

UT Arlington has won the national Excellence in Sustainability Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers. UTA was the recipient of the Sustainability Leadership Award in 2018 as well.

Maja Gajic

Chef Maja named new executive chef

Maja Gajic was named the new executive chef for Maverick Dining by Chartwells. With nearly 20 years of culinary leadership and expertise, she joined UTA in July 2020 as senior chef manager and was quickly promoted to executive sous chef.

She recently won the Living the Brand Award-West Division with Compass Group North America, Chartwells Higher Education.

As a war refugee from Serbia, Maja has resided in Texas, Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy, and Bosnia, to which she credits her vast culinary knowledge. In her down time, she continues to practice her five different languages while rescuing animals and volunteering locally in Arlington.

Research Opportunities

Gut microbe research

Students and faculty are needed for a six-week study on fermented soybeans and gut health. Participants will earn $300, paid in increments. The study is led by Woo-Suk Chang, associate professor of biology. Read more details and complete the participation application.
