The Stampede is coming

Next week kicks off classes and the Maverick Stampede, UTA's welcoming tradition of events, activities, networking, and socializing.

The official start of the semester is the MavsMeet Convocation at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at College Park Center. The event includes a spirited performance by the UTA band and a line-up of faculty, staff, and student speakers. Faculty and staff are invited to join the Afterparty immediately following the convocation that includes activities, games, giveaways, music, and more.

Informatics conference

UTA will host the second annual Texas Health Informatics Alliance Conference Friday, Sept. 9, at the University Center. This marks the first time the conference—a collaboration with UT Health Science Center at Houston and UT Southwestern Medical Center—will be held in person.

Equitable access roundtable

UT Arlington hosted an important conversation on equitable access in higher education through its collaboration with the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ Equity Roundtable.

Water infrastructure

Mohsen Shahandashti, associate professor of civil engineering, is assessing the market potential of a risk-based assessment framework for urban water infrastructure after natural disasters.

PR crises

Traci Freling, associate professor of marketing, is doing research that could help organizations assess how quickly they should respond to negative publicity to help their bottom lines.

Monkeypox response

UTA is closely following the global monkeypox outbreak and the virus’ presence in the region. Read about the disease's symptoms, resources, and the University's response planning.

One-day upgrade and other parking news

New this year is a one-day upgrade to your parking permit. This includes the Maverick Parking Garage and reserved spaces in select lots.

The start of each semester is always an exciting time, as well as a time of full parking lots and higher-than-normal traffic. Be sure to add extra time (and patience) to your commute. Read more about navigating back-to-school traffic.

Teams updates

Home Page is a new Class Teams experience for students and educators. Home Page can be used to collect and organize the most important files, links, and information for classroom success.

Users can access meeting video recordings and attendance reports directly in a learning management system incorporating the Teams Meeting learning tools inoperability app. The meeting recording and report will be available to all users once the meeting has ended.

Channel Meetings allows users to create meetings that target specific Class Team channels instead of a static list of attendees. Channel Meetings also allows you to connect your meetings with more content within the Class Team.

Transloc app for escort

Late Night Security Escort Service has changed apps. Use the free Transloc on-demand app to schedule an escort 7 p.m.-3 a.m. seven days per week in the fall semester. New off-campus locations are Centennial Court, Maverick Place, 848 Mitchell, The Arlie, and Downtown Arlington.

UTA Night at the Rangers

Swing for the fences and enjoy UTA Night at the Rangers with your fellow Mavs. The Rangers will play the Oakland Athletics at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Globe Life Field. Tickets start at $17. Buy tickets to the game to be eligible for a special UTA/Texas Rangers hat.
