Carla Hall tonight at Texas Hall

Join UTA for "An Inspiring Evening with Carla Hall" at 7:30 p.m. today, Monday, Sept. 26, at Texas Hall as part of the Maverick Speakers Series. Hall, celebrity chef, TV personality, and author, competed on Bravo's Top Chef and Top Chef: All Stars, spent seven years co-hosting ABC's Emmy-winning series The Chew, and is currently featured in the Food Network shows Thanksgiving, Holiday, and Halloween Baking Championships and Worst Cooks in America.

The Investiture of President Jennifer Cowley

Cowley formally inaugurated Friday

Join fellow Mavericks for the formal inauguration of UTA's 10th president, Jennifer Cowley, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at College Park Center. An RSVP is appreciated but not required.

A festival reception on Spaniolo Drive will immediately follow the event.

For quicker entry to the event, come without a purse or bag, or one that’s compliant with College Park Center’s clear bag policy. All bags not in compliance with the policy will be inspected upon entry.

Cowley named fellow

UTA President Jennifer Cowley was selected by the National Academy of Public Administration for its 2022 Class of Academy Fellows.

Testing software updates

Allison Sullivan, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, is testing software updates without testing unchanged parts of the code, which will help software developers improve their products while also increasing efficiency.

Stress and the heart

Ashley Darling and Jody Greaney of the Neurovascular Physiology Laboratory are studying how daily stress can play a role in one’s risk of cardiovascular disease.

BS in applied sociology

UT Arlington now offers a Bachelor of Science in applied sociology as a new degree option in the College of Liberal Arts.

Community Partner Breakfast

Learn how to create service learning projects in academic courses at the annual Community Partner Breakfast, which brings together faculty, staff, and administrators with nonprofit agency representatives. The event is 8-10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, followed by the Volunteer Opportunity Exchange.

UT System Brain Research Summit

The UT System Brain Research Summit is planned for Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 7-8, in Austin. The event will focus on the significant clinical and basic neuroscience research occurring across the 13 UT institutions.

Policy updates

HR-E-PO-09 Personnel Records Policy—This new policy replaced HR-E-PR-07 Personnel Records Procedure and clarifies the records that should be contained in an employee’s personnel file and who may access personnel files.

HR-E-PO-17 Teaching Duties and Related Compensation Policy—Changes were made to clarify the current practice in some colleges for administrators to teach courses in addition to their regular duties and be paid.

HR-E-PO-22 Phased Faculty Retirement Policy—Faculty phased retirement has been a long-standing practice at UTA and other UT institutions. This policy provides guidance on the phased retirement process and necessary steps.

Be part of Leadership Academy

Faculty and staff are encouraged to apply for the UTA Leadership Academy, a broad leadership development program that includes the essential characteristics and skills needed to be an effective leader in a higher education environment.

The spring cohort of 15-20 faculty and staff will focus on practical leadership topics, issues within higher education, and personal leadership development.

Applications are due by Monday, Oct. 31.

Jamf Connect for Apple

Monday, Oct. 3, is the start of remote deployment of Jamf Connect, a new way to log into your macOS device that simplifies authentication and password management for on-campus and off-campus users. Learn about the Jamf Connect requirements before implementation.

Architecture exhibit

Celebrate the best in architectural delineation for more than 45 years at an exhibit for the Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation Competition through Friday, Oct. 14, at the Max W. Sullivan Gallery in the CAPPA building.
