Student Success Champion Awards

The 2022 Student Success Champion Awards recipients have been announced by the Division of Student Success. The winners were selected for demonstrating a commitment to a culture of student success, experiential learning, retention and completion, innovative practices, and service to students.

Staff winner is Lynne Kinnan, assistant director of academic success and academic advisor, College of Engineering. Runner-up is Blake Carpenter, student data services manager, University Analytics.

Faculty winner is David Coursey, associate professor and director of the Master of Public Administration program, College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs. Runner-up is Karla Arenas-Itotia, assistant professor of practice, School of Social Work.

Mujer Legendaria

Jessica Sanchez, director for Student Advocacy Services, was honored for innovation, advocacy, and engagement as one of four North Texas recipients of the 2022 Mujeres Legendarias Award presented by the Ford Motor Company.

Social Impact Award

UT Arlington’s University Crossroads, led by Associate Vice Provost Michele Bobadilla, received the North Texas Commission’s Social Impact Award for its lasting impact in shaping the region.

Alumnus works for SpaceX

As a flight software engineer for SpaceX, Daniel Delago (’20 BS, Computer Science), has a literal front-row seat for every launch of the Falcon 9. Along with his fellow engineers, he works to ensure the rocket’s software is healthy prior to liftoff.

Campus Pride award

Campus Pride has designated UT Arlington a five out of five in its Campus Pride Index. The index is an overall indicator of institutional commitment to LGBTQ-inclusive policies, programs, and practices.

Tare receives UN award

Meghna Tare, chief sustainability officer, has earned the 2022 U.N. Global Leadership Award for United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) No. 4, Quality Education.

Commencement at Globe Life Field

Transfer Student Week

National Transfer Student Week is a way to celebrate transfer students and the professionals who support them on their journeys. UTA aims to increase awareness of common transfer needs and barriers and to build community among the current and former transfer student population.

Texas history exhibit

A new exhibit, Shifting Shapes of Early Texas, looks at the people who shaped Texas through documents, books, and maps they left behind. The exhibit runs through Jan. 15 in Special Collections of the Central Library.

Cowtown Moderne exhibit

Art Deco expert Kathryn Holliday, professor of architecture, will speak at the Cowtown Moderne: The Lasting Influence of the Art Deco Style opening reception 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The UTA Fine Art Collections and UTA Libraries Special Collections collaboration runs Monday-Oct. 17-Friday, Dec. 9, in the Visual Resource Commons and Fine Art Collections Gallery.

Documentary screening

A screening of the first episode of the local Black history documentary "Echoes_from_the_Hill" is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Rosebud Theatre in the University Center. A panel discussion will follow.

Glass pumpkin sale

The Art and Art History Department’s 10th Annual Glass Pumpkin Sale and Fundraiser is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, for faculty and staff and Saturday, Oct. 22, for the public at the Studio Arts Center. Proceeds benefit the glass area's student organization and the program.
