Flu and COVID vaccine clinic Friday

A walk-in clinic for a free bivalent COVID booster is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in room 102A of the Maverick Activities Center for faculty, staff, and students. Flu vaccines also are available and can be received with a COVID‑19 booster dose. No appointment or insurance is required.

COVID-19 boosters are free, regardless of insurance status. Flu vaccines are free with insurance. The cost without insurance is $25, payable by cash or check.

New energy degree

UTA is adding a first-of-its-kind bachelor’s degree program in resource and energy engineering to train students to apply engineering principles to the design, development, operation, and evaluation of energy generation, storage, conversion, and distribution systems.

Bowling, Jain named fellows

Alan Bowling and Ankur Jain, associate professors of mechanical engineering, have been named fellows by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Jared Kenworthy and Paul Paulus have published a new book about how innovative ideas emerge in individual and group environments.

UT CARE Medicare Advantage PPO

The new UT CARE Medicare Advantage PPO plan takes effect Jan. 1, 2023, for Medicare-eligible retirees and their dependents. UT CARE Medicare Advantage Retiree Annual Enrollment runs through Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Design, writing honors

The Marketing, Messaging, and Engagement team earned one international award and five regional awards for its creative design and powerful writing from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Best Scholarly Paper

Norma Garza Reyes, experimental psychology doctoral student, earned an award for Best Scholarly Paper from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education.

Global Maverick Perspective

Staff and faculty are invited to attend Developing a Global Maverick Perspective, a lunchtime workshop on developing intercultural skills and adopting a global perspective in the workplace. Registration is required for the event at noon Monday, Nov. 14.

'Soul of a Professor'

Faculty Affairs and Academic Affairs host Lisa Pruitt, who will speak on her experiences balancing life and work in academia at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in room 104 of Trinity Hall.

In her book Soul of a Professor: Memoir of an Un-Engineered Life (2022) she recounts a story of resilience, perseverance, and healing.

A UC Berkeley professor of mechanical engineering and bioengineering, Pruitt will orient the conversation around issues concerning imposter syndrome, academic façade, and self-care.

Basketball legend Shereka Wright is living her American Dream right here in Arlington as head basketball coach of the UT Arlington Lady Mavericks.

UTA's volleyball team hosts Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day noon Saturday, Nov. 5, at College Park Center as the Mavericks take on Stephen F. Austin.

Cabaret

Come to the 'Cabaret'

The Maverick Theatre Company presents Cabaret, the story of characters who frequent the Kit Kat Club in 1920s Berlin. Based on the 1998 Broadway revival, the show explores adult themes of sexual liberation, white supremacy, and a woman’s right to choose. Recommended for ages 13 and older.

Performances are Wednesday-Sunday, Nov. 9-13, in the Studio Theatre of the Fine Arts Building North.
