Homecoming 2022 was lots of fun

The week had some cold and wet moments, but Mavericks made the best of it for Homecoming 2022, Nov. 7-12. Students painted vehicles to celebrate UT Arlington. The annual Chili Cook-off warmed hearts and stomachs, and The Bash filled Texas Hall with great music.

Saturday started off with the Homecoming 5K. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members enjoyed the street festival, parade, and pep rally before the men's basketball game against Southwestern University.

Recent grad, veteran honored

Marquerite "Maya" Herzog ('22 PhD, Quantitative Biology), a U.S. Navy veteran, was named a 2022 Ford Proud to Honor Hall of Heroes honoree.

Atomic layer measurement

A UTA team of physicists developed a new technique that can measure the properties of the topmost atomic layer of materials without including information from the underlying layers.

Vaccine clinic Wednesday at MAC

UTA will host a vaccine clinic 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in room 102A in the Maverick Activities Center. No registration is required.

The clinic will offer the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose at no cost for students, faculty, and staff. The flu vaccine also will be available and can be received in tandem with a COVID-19 booster dose. The flu vaccine is free with insurance and $25 without, payable by cash or check.

Accessibility workshop

The Accommodating for Students with Low Vision and/or Hard of Hearing workshop details accommodations available for UTA students noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. RSVP for in-person attendees; lunch provided. Register to access the virtual meeting.

Hearing Officer Training

The Office of Community Standards will host New Hearing Officer Training 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, and 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, in room 205 of Trinity Hall. Snacks will be provided. Email conduct@uta.edu for details.

CEEI open house

The Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Innovation hosts an open house 2:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, to share about the entrepreneurial resources available. Please RSVP.

UT Flex deadline

For the 2021-22 plan year, Tuesday, Nov. 15, is the last day to incur UT Flex qualifying health care expenses, and Wednesday, Nov. 30, is the UT Flex health care and dependent day care claim filing deadline. Questions? Email benefits@uta.edu or call 817-272-5554.

UT CARE Medicare

The new UT CARE Medicare Advantage PPO plan takes effect Jan. 1, 2023, for Medicare-eligible retirees and their dependents. UT CARE Medicare Advantage Retiree Annual Enrollment runs through Tuesday, Nov. 15. Visit the UT CARE website for more information.

COVID-19 testing center to close

The Curative COVID-19 Testing Center on Spaniolo Drive will close on Friday, Nov. 18. Find other COVID-19 testing options available to the UTA community on the COVID-19 website.

Learn about the prevention and cessation of all nicotine products and enjoy some barbecue at Eliminate Tobacco Use Day (formerly the Great American SmokeOut) 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Palo Duro Lounge of the University Center. Free barbecue and T-shirts to the first 500 participants.

Grad school event

Attend Graduate School Bound to learn about great graduate opportunities noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the San Jacinto room of the University Center. Learn how to select a graduate program and obtain insight into the graduate admission process and potential funding opportunities.

'Maverick Safety Matters'

The fall edition of Maverick Safety Matters includes details about recent fire prevention training, the new online application to operate an unmanned aircraft system on campus, and establishing a biological safety level 2 laboratory.

MavAlly 101

Thanksgiving dinner

UTA's annual campus-wide Thanksgiving Dinner is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Connection Café in the University Center. Tickets are $10 for faculty and staff. Students on a meal plan will be able to attend for free; students without a meal plan can purchase tickets for $7.
