UTA worth the drive

For Yazmin Silva, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UTA is so important that she has been willing to make a six-hour, same-day roundtrip commute along the Texas border to complete her required clinical hours. She does so while balancing single parenthood and a full-time job teaching high school Spanish.

Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship

Nine earn top fellowships

Nine students have received coveted Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowships from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The students come from UTA’s College of Engineering; College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs; and College of Business.

WFSN conference

The Women's Faculty and Staff Network's conference focuses on development, health, and self-care 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the University Center. This event is free for faculty and staff, and lunch is provided. Registration is required; deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 31. Volunteers are needed.

Deadline extended

The deadline to apply for the Center for Service Learning's Faculty Fellows program is now Thursday, Jan. 26. Apply to discover how to incorporate service learning into courses and foster relationships and research opportunities across disciplines and with community agencies. Ask-A-Mav

Ask-A-Mav is an online resource where students can submit general questions or find information they could not find on the UTA site. This initiative points students to the best campus resources while providing guidance and support. Students can email Ask-A-Mav@uta.edu and expect a response within 24-48 business hours.

Graduation Help Desk

The Graduation Help Desk is here to help ensure every student graduates by addressing complex academic and nonacademic issues that hinder a student's academic performance or path to graduation. Students can contact the Graduation Help Desk and expect a response within 24-48 business hours.

Academic Early Alert

UTA’s Academic Early Alert is a referral program that creates an intervention with academic coaches before students fall behind in their classes during the semester. Alerts are best when they are submitted early in the term.

Policy and procedure updates

BF-T-PR-03 Meals, Lodging, and Misc. Travel Expenses for Contiguous U.S. Travel–Local Funds Only Procedure—Minor updates were made to this procedure. Links to the General Services Administration per diem rates and the National Association of Counties website were added. Language regarding supporting documentation for the expense report for hotel stays when attending conferences was added in the Conference Lodging section to clarify processes.

CO-CS-PO-02 Weapons on Campus & Concealed Carry Policy—This policy was updated to clarify that the Firearm Carry Act does not apply to university campuses. In addition, the name was changed from “Concealed Carry and Weapons on Campus.”

GA-CMI-PO-01 Use of Copyrighted Materials Policy—This policy name was changed from “Copying Copyrighted Materials” to “Use of Copyrighted Materials.” A reference to the Copyright Office Circular 22 was added. This reference explains how to determine the copyright status of a work. The appendices were updated with Educational Fair Use Guidelines, along with grammatical corrections throughout. Appendix IV showing a sample letter requesting permission to copy was deleted, as requests are generally made now by email.

IT-PO-05 Electronic Information Resources (EIR) Accessibility Policy—This new policy was put into effect pursuant to a requirement in the Texas Administrative Code that each institution of higher education publish a current accessibility policy pertaining to electronic resources (software, websites, etc.). The policy requires a plan for the EIR coordinator to monitor compliance with the standards of the code.

IT-PR-05 EIR Accessibility Procedure—This new procedure supports the IT-PO-05 EIR Accessibility Policy and summarizes the processes required to make electronic resources (software, websites, etc.) accessible.
