The University of Texas at Arlington has once again received national praise for its intentional support of its military community with a top 10 Military Friendly® School designation for 2023-24. Nearly 5,000 military-connected students attend UTA, including 2,900 military children or spouses.

A Maverick first

Meti Kebede, junior data science major, has become the first UTA student to complete a Google Career Certificate that’s equipping students with job-ready skills. UTA’s Power Up + Tech Up program is part of a larger partnership between the University of Texas System and Google that will award up to 10,000 UT System students across eight universities with Google Career Certificates.

Nursing student from Ukraine saves family

For Olexandra Shevchenko, a registered nurse and a student in UTA's Family Nurse Practitioner program, her job and her studies usually came first. But in February 2022, her focus turned elsewhere: her home nation of Ukraine, which had been invaded by the Russian military.

Maverick Experience

UTA will welcome prospective freshman and transfer students on campus for Maverick Experience on Monday, March 13. This event is the perfect way for prospective students and their families to learn about all the amazing things UTA has to offer.

Spirit Day

All staff are invited to attend the Staff Advisory Council's annual Spirit Day on Wednesday, March 15, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Bluebonnet Ballroom. Free spirit items will be given to the first 200 guests.

Maverick Speakers Series

The Maverick Speakers Series presents Indra Nooyi Tuesday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. Nooyi is an experienced leader in the business world and has held executive positions at major companies all over the globe. She is also a revered role model for women and immigrants and celebrated for her empowering messages on inclusivity. Tickets are free for the campus community and $5 for the general public.

Community conversation

Join the Office of Cultural Engagement and Social Change on Monday, March 27, for its community conversation about how the overturning of Roe v. Wade impacted documented and undocumented women within the United States.

Outside Activity Portal

UTA’s Compliance, Accountability, Risk, and Ethics Committee would like to remind all employees of their ongoing obligation to report whether they have any outside activity or other potential conflict of interest or commitment in the Outside Activity Portal. Employees are responsible to make reports at least annually or when there is a reportable change to their outside interests. Additional details about employee responsibilities can be found in the Conflicts of Interest, Conflicts of Commitment, and Outside Activities Policy (EI-PO-02).

Social Change Conference

Mavericks who are interested to learn how they can influence social change in society and academia are welcome to attend the Social Change Conference Friday, March 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the University Center. Participants must register to attend.

Electronic waste recycling

Bring your electronic waste to the recycling centers on the University Center Mall on Friday, April 21, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to keep them out of landfills. Monitors, televisions, keyboards, laptops, phones, and more will be accepted.

Network Switch Refresh

The Office of Information Technology is updating UTA’s network infrastructure across campus. The project involves building-by-building activity after regular business hours. To view when your building is impacted, visit the project website, which will be updated as the project progresses.
