The Renal Project

Shashank Moddhia (’05 MS, Biomedical Engineering), is the founder and CEO of The Renal Project, a Mumbai-based company that aims to revolutionize the availability and delivery of dialysis therapy. The Renal Project opened in 2019 with a single dialysis center. Since then, it has grown to include 31 centers throughout remote areas of India.

Sediment studies

Yu Zhang, associate professor of civil engineering, is filling in an information gap for the state by determining how much sediment is lost by Texas rivers to the ocean.

Spirit Day

All staff are invited to attend the Staff Advisory Council's annual Spirit Day on Wednesday, March 15, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Bluebonnet Ballroom. Free spirit items will be given to the first 200 guests.

Maverick Speakers Series

The Maverick Speakers Series presents Indra Nooyi Tuesday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. Nooyi is an experienced leader in the business world and has held executive positions at major companies all over the globe. She is also a revered role model for women and immigrants and celebrated for her empowering messages on inclusivity. Tickets are free for the campus community and $5 for the general public.

Social Change Conference

Mavericks who are interested to learn how they can influence social change in society and academia are welcome to attend the Social Change Conference Friday, March 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the University Center. Participants must register to attend.

Save the date

Save the date for the School of Social Work/CONHI Smart Hospital Building Ribbon Cutting Friday, April 14, at 2 p.m. Plan to celebrate with your fellow Mavericks as we usher in a new era of multidisciplinary learning at the official opening ceremony. Together Texans can fight the fentanyl crisis

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Provisional data from the Texas Department of State Health Services shows that 1,672 people died from fentanyl overdose in 2021—an 89% increase over 2020. Electronic waste recycling

Bring your electronic waste to the recycling centers on the University Center Mall on Friday, April 21, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to keep them out of landfills. Monitors, televisions, keyboards, laptops, phones, and more will be accepted.

A Celebration of Research and Innovation

Join the UTA research community on Monday, April 24, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for A Celebration of Research and Innovation featuring panels, posters, exhibits, and presentations by faculty, staff, and student inventors. Participants will network with other Maverick inventors, discover research opportunities, and connect with community partners. Please RSVP to attend.
