A Conversation With Indra Nooyi

The Maverick Speakers Series presents Indra Nooyi Tuesday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. Nooyi is an experienced leader in the business world and has held executive positions at major companies all over the globe. She is also a revered role model for women and immigrants and celebrated for her empowering messages on inclusivity. Tickets are free for the campus community and $5 for the general public.

Early career award

Linda Wang, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, has earned a five-year, $503,000 Faculty Early Career Development Program grant from the National Science Foundation to optimize supply chain management.

Student success award

UTA was named the 2023 Education Partner of the Year by the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas Dallas Chapter at its inaugural Noche de Carnaval on March 10. The honor recognizes the University’s commitment to access and success in higher education for first-generation Latinas.

Maverick powers up with Google

Meti Kebede, junior data science major, has become the first UTA student to complete a Google Career Certificate that’s equipping students with job-ready skills, Spectrum News reported. UTA’s Power Up + Tech Up program is part of a larger partnership between the University of Texas System and Google that will award up to 10,000 UT System students across eight universities with Google Career Certificates.

Mavericks who are interested to learn how they can influence social change in society and academia are welcome to attend the Social Change Conference Friday, March 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Center.

Antarctic maps open house

UTA Special Collections invites all to view a new donation of 150 maps of Antarctica Tuesday, March 21, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The maps, which range from 1598 to the late 20th century, tell the history of Antarctica, the explorers who braved unknown dangers, and the scientists who continue to work there today. The items were donated by NBC 5 meteorologist David Finfrock, who will be at the open house to discuss the maps, along with his passion for Antarctica.

Distinguished speaker Julieta V. García

The Center for Mexican American Studies presents a lecture by Julieta V. García titled "Persistence Counts" on Wednesday, April 12. Drawing on her experiences as a public servant and community leader, Dr. García will discuss the significance of Hispanic/Latino representation in American society, politics, and higher education.
