Gender violence topic at Maverick Speakers Series on Thursday

Global thought-leader Jackson Katz will speak on "The Big Picture: Gender Violence in Historical, Cultural, and Political Perspectives" at the Maverick Speakers Series event on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Texas Hall.

Dr. Katz is co-founder of the multiracial, mixed-gender Mentors in Violence Prevention program and the author of two books, including The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women & How All Men Can Help. His TED talk, “Violence Against Women is a Men’s Issue,” has been viewed more than 4 million times.

Tickets are free for UTA students. A preferred seating package is $35.

Vote in the campus elections 9 a.m.-6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Gallery at the University Center. Cast your ballot for Homecoming king and queen, Student Senate, Graduate Student Senate, and more.

Early voting

Early voting for the Nov. 5 general election runs through Friday, Nov. 1. The closest polling place to campus is the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse, 700 E. Abram St.

Deaf, hard-of-hearing folks, ASL signers get-together
