Enter COVID-19 vaccine proof by Wednesday for chance at prizes

The free immunization clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 6, is the last chance to enter the Maverick Motivator Program to win prizes for being vaccinated against COVID‑19.

The walk-in-only clinic has the FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday at the Maverick Activities Center. Students will receive a $50 gift card to the UTA Bookstore for receiving the vaccine.

Regardless of where you received your vaccine, upload proof of full vaccination to the COVID‑19 Self Report portal in MyMav by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday for a chance to receive tuition scholarships, free parking and meal plans, MacBook Pros, and more.

If you received your first vaccine dose at the Sept. 15 clinic, you will be eligible to receive your second dose at the Oct. 6 clinic.

Maverick Speakers Series Virtual, Simu Liu, Oct. 21, 7;30 p.m.

Maverick Speakers Series

Join UTA for “A Conversation with Simu Liu,” star of Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, as part of the Virtual Maverick Speakers Series.

Liu is the newest star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is also known for his role on the TV series Kim’s Convenience.

National Night Out at UTA

National Night Out

The UTA Police Department will be hosting National Night Out (NNO) 5:30-7:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Brazos Park.

NNO is a nationwide community-building campaign organized to promote police-community partnerships. UTA has received national recognition for its NNO event for the past nine consecutive years.

The event will include free food, prizes, activities, and demonstrations related to public safety. A large number of community partners will attend and promote various aspects of public safety.

Doggy Days return

Mavericks will once again celebrate Doggy Days on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Central Library. Sign up two weeks before the next session on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Send Silence Packing

Send Silence Packing's all-day exhibit was displayed on the Library mall on Sept. 29 and featured backpacks with photographs and personal stories of suicide to send the message that help is available.

The Department of English's new Story Club covers good stories from all formats. An info table will have details 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 5, on the west UC mall.

Social policy symposium

Big names in social policy and advocacy are scheduled for the inaugural SPEAK Virtual Symposium sponsored by the School of Social Work. The symposium is Thursday-Friday, Oct. 7-8.

UTA Pre-Law will host a Law School Fair and Workshop at 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the Maverick Activities Center. Register to attend.

UTA Campus Elections

Apply for student elections

Throw your hat in the ring for the fall student elections for Homecoming king and queen, student senators, UTA ambassadors, or student service fee allocation committee representatives.

Candidate filing runs through Friday, Oct. 8.

The election is Saturday-Tuesday, Oct. 16-19.

JC Penney Suit-up Event

JCPenney Suit-Up Competition

Enter the JCPenney Suit-Up Competition for a chance to win a $100 JCPenney gift card. The competition is through Friday, Oct. 8.

Find ways to volunteer

Find ways to give to the community at the Volunteer Opportunity Exchange 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, in the Palo Duro Lounge of the University Center.

The exchange allows the UTA community to network with area nonprofit agencies to find ongoing or short-term service learning or volunteer opportunities.

Volunteering is part of the Maverick Advantage's distinguishing activity of community engagement.
