Thanksgiving dinner

Join fellow Mavericks for a Thanksgiving dinner 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Connection Café in the University Center.

This dinner is free for students with a meal plan. Tickets are required for non-meal plan holders and cost $7 for students and $10 for faculty, staff, and community members.

Donations to the Maverick Pantry will be accepted at the door.

To volunteer or for more information, contact the Student Affairs Office at 817‑272‑6080.

Take COVID-19 tests before, after holiday

The COVID‑19 testing site in the Carlisle Suite in the University Center will be closed Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 24‑26, and the location in College Park District will be closed Thursday-Friday, Nov. 25‑26.

All Mavericks are encouraged to get tested before and after traveling or attending large gatherings over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanksgiving hours

Although there are no classes Wednesday, Nov. 24, the University will be open for business. UTA is closed Thursday-Friday, Nov. 25-26.

Check holiday hours for campus dining, UTA Libraries, and the Maverick Activities Center. Shuttles will run the Red Route on Wednesday with no service Thursday-Friday. The courtesy escort service will be closed Thursday night.

Two more COVID-19 vaccine clinics set

UTA has two COVID‑19 vaccine clinics planned, including one to administer the pediatric vaccine to children ages 5‑11. These free walk-in-only clinics will be in the Maverick Activities Center and are open to dependents and family members of UTA students and employees.

The clinic for ages 12 and older is in the Group Exercise Room 101B.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 1, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The clinic for ages 5 years and older is in room 100B.

  • Saturday, Dec. 11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The clinics offer first and second doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, as well as booster doses for eligible individuals. Students will receive a $50 gift card to the UTA Bookstore for each of the initial doses received at on-campus clinics.

First-generation Mavericks

First-generation Mavericks listened and learned from one another at a panel discussion and social event this week that celebrated students who are the first in their families to attend college.

Electronic accessibility courses

A series of courses on making electronic resources accessible for people with disabilities starts next week. Sign up for the Electronic Accessibility series, offered by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

NIH 'All of Us' study

Learn about the National Institutes of Health's All of Us study and how researchers and individuals can participate in this historic health database. The event is noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, in room 198 in the SEIR building and on Teams.

In-person or virtual graduation

Fall 2021 graduates are asked to indicate their plans to attend an in-person or virtual commencement ceremony, or neither, by Wednesday, Dec. 1. More information on graduate registration through MarchingOrder is available at uta.edu/commencement.

Students graduating in December 2021 should complete the Undergraduate Exit Survey, available through Canvas. Responses are confidential. Eligible students will receive invites from gradteam@uta.edu.

First-Destination Survey

Graduating seniors are urged to complete the First-Destination Survey on Handshake for a chance to win one of five $100 Visa gift cards.This survey is separate from the UTA Exit Survey.

Electrical outage planned

In order to replace the electrical feeder supporting the below listed buildings, the Office of Facilities Management must schedule an electrical outage for some buildings 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, to noon Sunday, Nov. 28. Emergency back-up generators in these buildings will be maintained throughout this outage to power crucial services.

Buildings affected are CAPPA (Architecture), Earth & Environmental Sciences (Geoscience), Engineering Lab, Fine Arts, Nanofab, Nedderman Hall, and Woolf Hall.

To prevent possible data loss, please save any computer work in progress. Also, turn off all electronic equipment including computers, scanners, and copiers; they do not need to be unplugged.

Kringle Village admission free Friday

Admission to The Kringle Village Holiday Hoedown is free with a UTA ID card on Friday, Nov. 26. Alumni can show their membership card or wear a UTA shirt for free admission.

The Kringle Village at Knapp Heritage Park, 201 W. Front St., is the North Texas annex of Santa’s Workshop with singing and dancing elves, reindeer, toy soldiers, and Mrs. Claus. There will be photo opportunities, snacks, and great entertainment.

The village is open 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Sunday, Dec. 19.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, the Arlington Holiday Lights Parade is at 6 p.m. The village will be openis open 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and older and $6 for ages 2-11. A $1 service charge is added.
