Tamara L. Brown named provost

Tamara L. Brown will serve as the next provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at The University of Texas at Arlington, effective Aug. 1.

Dr. Brown comes to UTA from the University of North Texas, where she served as executive dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences since 2019. In that position, she increased both student retention and diversity of the faculty.

Maverick Talent Pipeline Program

A grant awarded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will support UTA's new Maverick Talent Pipeline Program, which aims to create and sustain more equitable work-based learning opportunities for UTA students.

Psychological effects of COVID-19 on nurses

A study conducted by graduate researchers in UTA's Department of Psychology found that nurses have experienced higher levels of burnout and associated mental health risks since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hispanic-serving leadership

In fall 2022, UTA's College of Education will launch its Hispanic-Serving Leadership Preparation Graduate Certificate program, which provides a path for educational leaders to serve the Latinx population. Submit applications for the fall semester by July 1.

Learn how to search digital archives of the internet with the help of the UTA Libraries' Special Collections department. Web archiving is a similar process to traditional archiving of paper documents.

Black Excellence award winners named

The African American Faculty and Staff Association honored outstanding Mavericks at the annual Celebration of Black Excellence. Award winners are:

Reby Cary Faculty Excellence Award: Frederick Engram Jr., assistant professor of instruction, Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, College of Liberal Arts; Center for African American Studies; Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, College of Education

Staff Excellence Award: Candice Calhoun-Butts, assistant dean, Enrollment and Student Services, Academic Advising, College of Nursing and Health Innovation

Maxwell Scarlett Student Excellence Award: Courtney Matthews, graduate student, Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, College of Education

Track and field honors

A total of 14 Maverick track and field athletes were named to the Sun Belt Conference all-conference team. Arthur Petersen was named SBC Field Athlete of the Year and Jackson Cichon was Freshman of the Year.

Adjusted hours

Check the adjusted hours during maymester and summer for Campus Recreation facilities, campus libraries, and campus dining.

Response exercise at AT&T Stadium

The City of Arlington Office of Emergency Response will be conducting a dynamic response exercise on Wednesday, May 25, at AT&T Stadium, located at 900 W. Randol Mill Road. The exercise will begin at approximately 8 a.m. and conclude at noon.

While there may be a visible response of police, fire, and EMS equipment to the location during this timeframe, the public and media should know that the activity is for the purpose of this training exercise.

  • May 31—Last day of classes for summer intersession.
  • June 1—Final exams for summer intersession.

  • June 6—Census date for 14-week term. First day of classes for 11-week term and summer first five-week term.
  • June 6-7—Late registration for 11-week term and first five-week term.
  • June 9—Census date or first five-week term.
  • June 15—Last day to drop classes for first seven-week term; submit requests to advisor prior to 4 p.m.
  • June 17—Juneteenth Holiday; UTA closed; no classes.
