Juneteenth Festival at Brazos Park

The third annual Juneteenth Festival will include speakers, food, entertainment, and activities 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Brazos Park.

The event will provide all Mavericks with an opportunity to learn about and celebrate Black resilience and Black culture. Engage in this cultural celebration to advance awareness and inclusivity.

The city's Arlington Juneteenth Jubilee celebration will host a variety of events designed to feed the mind, body, and spirit Friday-Sunday, June 17-19.

Juneteenth: Freedom Day

No classes, campus closed Friday

In celebration of the Juneteenth holiday, UT Arlington will be closed and no classes are scheduled for Friday, June 17. Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating emancipation of enslaved Black Americans.

Jon Fagg named athletics director

UT Arlington has selected Jon Fagg as its next director of athletics, President Jennifer Cowley announced. Fagg, currently deputy athletics director at the University of Arkansas, will join UTA on Monday, Aug. 1.

Math connections

A team of UT Arlington mathematicians is leading a new national initiative to create pathways for students to pursue careers in agricultural fields.

Anthropology students attended the Summer Field School in Anthropology, a two-week program to get their hands dirty in archaeology and experience life and research at a real site.

Latino humanities studies

UT Arlington and some of the nation’s other top Hispanic-serving research universities are working together on cross-regional projects in Latino humanities studies.

New alliance formed

Twenty of the nation’s top research universities—including UT Arlington—announced the formation of the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities to increase opportunity for those historically underserved by higher education.

Honor society donation

A $50,000 gift from the Delta Theta Chapter 102 of Sigma, a nursing honor society, will provide a collaborative space in the new Smart Hospital where faculty can engage with students, enhancing the nursing learning environment.

Mavs make their mark at NCAA

Maverick athletes made good showings at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., last week. Three earned spots on the All-American First Team and one on the Second Team.

Parking notice for Wednesday

Parking and traffic in the College Park District will be affected when the WNBA Dallas Wings host Kids Day at noon Wednesday, June 15. Park South Lower Level and Lot 50-South will be closed to support the event. Reduced-rate permit holders may park in Lot 49.

Educational Opportunity Center

'Pride in the Archives'

In celebration of Pride Month, materials from the Tarrant County and UTA LGBTQA+ collections will be on display for Pride in the Archives exhibit through Thursday, June 30, in Special Collections on the sixth floor of Central Library.
